DysonGen5detect Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

Now that I've had this and used it for nearly 6 months, I feel safe enough to provide a review. I read way too many forums and watched way to many videos before deciding on this brand and model. We already have a regular Miele regular plug-in vacuum, which is great quality and works well, but more cumbersome than something like this. Like many others, my hope was that the convenience of a cordless stick appliance that did hard floors and carpet, would mean using it more often, which would outweigh the fact that the plug-in vacuum was more powerful. So, if I was going to spend the money, I wanted to go all the way and give it the best shot at something I'd actually enjoy using.I can tell you now that I couldn't be happier! This thing is everything the reviews said it was and everything I hoped it would be. Aside from it being purple (my wife's favorite color), my wife is just as happy with it, even though she doesn't use it, if you catch my drift. I use it at least twice a week. It's kinda funny as I usually pull it out to do a quick clean of the kitchen floor, then do the hallway, then switch to the carpet attachment, and next thing I know I'd done most of the house.The built-in wand is great too! That was a key selling point for me and it was great to realize it wasn't just a gimmick. The only thing that might have been nice is a longer wand attachment, but to be honest, I've been fine with out it.I will say I am somewhat careful with it as it is just about all plastic. I fear that one good drop on a hard floor and I'll be looking for parts. Nothing has happened, though, and with normal use (not throwing it around), it seems well built and will withstand several years or use.One recommendation is to get an after market stand. I got the one from Haturi Vacuum Stand designed for this generation of Dysons. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0D8HLHN8B?ie=UTF8&th=1. That meant no holes in the wall and was easier to find a good place the put it - and change my mind if I wanted to. It's been perfect. It's in a corner, but very easy to just grab and go anytime I want.The "detect" part of this, which is the light on the fluffy hard floor attachment works great, but is a double-edged sword. You probably didn't want to know how much stuff is down there, but it does work well.Emptying is a breeze. If you have pets, meaning hair, you may have to slide the thing back and forth a couple of times to clear the canister, but not a big deal. I've also taken the canister off as well as the inner metal filter to clean it all. This is very easy to do. The hepa filter being washable is great and easy to do as well.There is a larger version out there, but honestly this thing is top heavy enough as it is, so I wouldn't recommend the larger one unless you have a specific use case, like a very large home or something. On the topic of weight, it is heavier that all the other models, so be prepared, but it isn't all that bad. I'm an average guy and really have no problem using this for the 20-30 minutes it takes to do the whole house, including stairs and couch. On Auto, the battery lasts plenty long enough too, so there wasn't a need to get a second battery.

I'm not new to the Dyson family of vacuum cleaners, but this is the first battery powered one I have tried. My previous units were both Dyson uprights of the corded variety and, while they still work well, this unit is much easier to move about the house with.That said, you should know I use this unit on a daily basis along with a Roomba unit so the home is cleaned at least twice a day. While that might seem a bit excessive, I will simply state that I live with a parrot ( Cockatoo ) and anyone who lives with such birds knows exactly how much dust they produce.I have four hepa filters running 24/7 within the home in addition to an inline electro-static unit for the AC / Heating system. The amount of dust these little guys produce is like nothing else you've ever experienced.Let me just say that if Dyson has an arch-nemesis, it's a parrot ( of the powder-down variety ).It does a fantastic job of picking up the dust, feathers and bird dander from the floor. No complaints at all.Prior to purchase, I thought the green light on the hard surface cleaning head was gimmicky. Man was I wrong.That little light is positioned parallel to the floor and if you thought your floor was already clean it will show you just how mistaken you really are. It's on par with what a back-up camera did for cars. Once you use it, you'll never go without it ever again.Pre-purchase I thought perhaps it was a touch overpriced but, after using it daily, I have no regrets picking one up. At all.I can run all the hard surfaces with it in about 20 minutes or so and I still have plenty of battery remaining if I want to hit the carpeted areas. I typically let it stay in automatic mode and let it determine how much power to deliver to the motor depending on how much debris its sensors are picking up.

I have to tell that in my home Dyson met it’s match tonight when the new kid in town showed up. Name electrolux. He picked up what the dyson left behind and I didn’t think that was possible, it wasn’t much that the Dyson left behind but still.  I have owned many vacuum cleaners in my day and I’m very picky about vacuum cleaners so it is my personal opinion that the Dyson might be a tad stronger than the electric lux but they’re very close and Dyson is way more expensive electric lux you get way more attachments and tools than you do with Dyson. Also on the electrolux. They have a light on their brush head and Dyson doesn’t on their carpet brush head but they do for their hardwood floor. They have an optic light that shows you everything that the Dyson missed, so the jury still out but right now Dyson is all out of inventory. They don’t know when they’re gonna get it back if they ever gonna get it back so I’m tired of dealing with it so I had to come up with another alternative. I do currently now have about seven or eight different vacuum cleaner models all cordless of course except for one and that’s a Kirby and that vacuum cleaner picks up really good, but not quite as good as a Dyson But I need something dependable and electrlux is not out of any of their stocks so I just might be transferring all my purchases to Electrolux going forward. Of course, depending on the model you get price is very of course, but my electric Lux was a lot cheaper than my Dyson and the parts are quality parts as to where the Dyson they seem cheap.
