If you are in the market for one of these, I'd highly recommend this one.
Now that I've had this and used it for nearly 6 months, I feel safe enough to provide a review. I read way too many forums and watched way to many videos before deciding on this brand and model. We already have a regular Miele regular plug-in vacuum, which is great quality and works well, but more cumbersome than something like this. Like many others, my hope was that the convenience of a cordless stick appliance that did hard floors and carpet, would mean using it more often, which would outweigh the fact that the plug-in vacuum was more powerful. So, if I was going to spend the money, I wanted to go all the way and give it the best shot at something I'd actually enjoy using.I can tell you now that I couldn't be happier! This thing is everything the reviews said it was and everything I hoped it would be. Aside from it being purple (my wife's favorite color), my wife is just as happy with it, even though she doesn't use it, if you catch my drift. I use it at least twice a week. It's kinda funny as I usually pull it out to do a quick clean of the kitchen floor, then do the hallway, then switch to the carpet attachment, and next thing I know I'd done most of the house. The built-in wand is great too! That was a key selling point for me and it was great to realize it wasn't just a gimmick. The only thing that might have been nice is a longer wand attachment, but to be honest, I've been fine with out it.I will say I am somewhat careful with it as it is just about all plastic. I fear that one good drop on a hard floor and I'll be looking for parts. Nothing has happened, though, and with normal use (not throwing it around), it seems well built and will withstand several years or use.One recommendation is to get an after market stand. I got the one from Haturi Vacuum Stand designed for this generation of Dysons. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0D8HLHN8B?ie=UTF8&th=1. That meant no holes in the wall and was easier to find a good place the put it - and change my mind if I wanted to. It's been perfect. It's in a corner, but very easy to just grab and go anytime I want. The "detect" part of this, which is the light on the fluffy hard floor attachment works great, but is a double-edged sword. You probably didn't want to know how much stuff is down there, but it does work well.Emptying is a breeze. If you have pets, meaning hair, you may have to slide the thing back and forth a couple of times to clear the canister, but not a big deal. I've also taken the canister off as well as the inner metal filter to clean it all. This is very easy to do. The hepa filter being washable is great and easy to do as well. There is a larger version out there, but honestly this thing is top heavy enough as it is, so I wouldn't recommend the larger one unless you have a specific use case, like a very large home or something. On the topic of weight, it is heavier that all the other models, so be prepared, but it isn't all that bad. I'm an average guy and really have no problem using this for the 20-30 minutes it takes to do the whole house, including stairs and couch. On Auto, the battery lasts plenty long enough too, so there wasn't a need to get a second battery.

Dyson is getting better and better
In June, 2024 I purchased a Gen5detect to replace my five year old V8. The Gen5 was expensive, but it was on sale on Amazon so I girded my lions and closed my eyes as I hit the “Proceed to Checkout” button.I am a 78 year old 4” 11” woman and my large Dyson Animal was getting just a little too heavy to use everyday.Boy what a difference! I use the Gen5 almost every single day, and love it.The Gen5 is quieter; smother and easier to handle; love the Fluffy Optic Cleaner Head, light sees every speck of dust; and love the On/Off button as opposed to the “dead man’s switch” on their other products I have owned. Easier on the hands. In Sept the ball wheels on the side of the Digital Motorbar Clean Head came off. I found replacements on Amazon, but from the looks of the part they may or may not fit the Gen5 although the description says they would. Looked like the axel on the part was broken. Went back onto Amazon and read the reviews and found several customers reporting this issue.I Logged onto the Dyson website and Chatted with a Customer Service Rep. Asked me whether or not the parts on Amazon would indeed fit the Gen5. Told the Customer Service Rep (Harpreet K) my story and asked whether it was common for the Motorbar Cleaner Head to break, and would the Amazon part fix the issue. He asked for pics of the damage. When he came back into the Chat, he validated that the part was only three months old, and indicated there was no need for me to order the replacement wheels from Amazon. He had gotten approval from his manager to send me a new Digital Motorbar to replace the broken one. GREAT!Said the part was out of stock, but as soon as it was replenished, I would receive an Email and could call Customer Service to have the new Motorbars sent to me.Waited for three weeks, and when I did not hear from Dyson, logged onto Customer Service again and chatted with another Dyson Colleague. Gave him the Cast Number given by Harpreet and asked when I could expect the new Motorbar to be in stock? The Customer Service Rep said they did not know when the part would be back in stock, and not to worry because Dyson will be replacing the product in its entirety. What! Dyson will send me a new Gen5Detect? Yes.Please box up the old vac and all its parts (Do I have a box? Yes…) and use the UPS Label in my email box to return the product. Boxed it up and took to UPS the next day. Dyson’s website said it could take as long as 15 days from the date they receive the old vacuum to send me another.Yesterday I received my new Gen5Detect via UPS less than 10 days after I returned the broken vacuum. Been using my old V8 in the interim, and what a difference.Customer reviews also spoke to not so good customer service on the Dyson Website. I did not find that to be the case. The individuals I worked with were professional, knowledgeable and able to make customerfacing decisions. They resolved the issue quickly and much to my satisfaction.I currently have a 20+ year yellow Dyson which I still use in my sewing room; a purple animal upright which I will probably give up; the very first Dyson stick 25 years ago which I was very disappointed in and returned; the V8 and now the Gen5.
