Q: Can the height be trimmed to counter-height (approx. 30")?

Well the door can be cut but not sure about to only 30 inches. I cut the bottom of all my doors down to 77 inches as all my doors and closets are shorter than 80 inches. I had to use a really good jigsaw with a good jigsaw blade in order to make a nice cut but was able to do it will the door was still folded up like when you receive it. That being said it can be cut using the right tools. Now your problem is you want to cut it down to only 30 inches. The door has a handle you add when done and the top of it starts at 29 inches down from the top. The handle is 6 inches long so it goes down to 35 inches on the door. When you cut it to 30 the door handle will have to be moved up so the holes will have to be re-drilled. The other problem is the magnetic latch to keep the door closed is at 31 inches from the top. It is 2 inches in length so it goes down to 33 inches on the door. Thatpart can not be relocated as it is part of the manufactured door. So you are going to lose the magnetic lock part. That said it can be cut but you have to do it will the right tools. You will also need to relocated the door handle up to the middle of the 30 inches which I do not see as a problem but something you need to do if you want the handle to open and close it. The major lose will be the magnetic lock that holds it from opening. You will need to figure out some other way to latch it if you want it to stay closed of just let it rest against whatever you pull it towards.So since I cut all of the doors and they came out good I do not see a problem making the cut at 30 inches other than the two issues I stated. All in all the section you have left is going to be no good as the door hangs from the top down and all the anchors to hold the door are at the top and it is manufactured into the product. Q: Will this door keep a cat out of a room or do you think they would be able to crawl under it?

My cats declawed and looks under door but does not attempt to go under! Door is to close to the floor and two stiff to crawl under,unless your cat is a gymnist we wont go under!

Y E S ! !......YOU CAN REMOVE SECTIONS.......HOWEVER......I THINK THEY MAKE A 24" DOOR ! !

Possibly, or you could buy TWO 24" DOORS.
