Do you just place the light on top of the bird cage ? & is this good for parakeets?

It is designed to be either placed on top of the cage or attached to the top/inside of the cage by using the enclosed mounting brackets. By doing this the light will only light the cage eliminating any "shining in your eyes" or reflecting off of your TV screen like the other styles of bird cage lights on the market do. This light will be perfect for Parakeets and, because of our proprietary blend of LED's, when you turn it on you will see colors in your bird's plumage that you never even knew it had.

How do these lights stand up to cockatoos, african greys, macaws? im considering purchasing this for all my birds. we are currently using aviansun lam

I have this light mounted inside a cage with two DYHs, and they ignore it, even the one who crawls around on the ceiling like a bat. It's a pretty sturdy unit, but I don't know how it would stand up to the bigger birds, or a very curious Grey. I'm happy with it, and would buy it again.

Will the brightness hurt the bird’s eyes? Does it get hot?

This is the best light we have had. No it doesn't hurt their eyes and it doesn't get hot.

The box says it's dimmable but I cant find anything on it to dim it. How do i do this?

Sorry about the confusion. "Dimmable" and "Not Dimmable" is a relatively new classification that all light manufacturers have started using in the past few years. As lighting technology has advanced some types of lights are or are not dimmable, thus the new classification. Think of it as a phrase like Waterproof or Microwaveable.
