Pico 4 Ultra VR Headset: A Capable All-Rounder with Room for Improvement
Pico 4 Ultra VR Headset: A Capable All-Rounder with Room for ImprovementAs an avid VR enthusiast, I was excited to get my hands on the Pico 4 Ultra. After spending some quality time with it, here's my take:Pros:Easy Setup & Performance: The headset was a breeze to set up, and its 12GB RAM delivers great performance and multitasking capabilities.Clear Visuals: The pancake lenses provide clear, edge-to-edge vision, and the display, while LCD, offers good resolution with minimal screen door effect.Impressive Mixed Reality: The mixed reality passthrough is a significant upgrade, offering excellent tracking and room recognition, making for immersive experiences.Seamless PCVR Streaming: Pico Connect makes PCVR streaming straightforward, providing good quality even wirelessly.Accurate Full-Body Tracking: The optional motion trackers are incredibly easy to set up and deliver accurate full-body tracking, a huge plus for social VR.Cons:Facial Interface Discomfort: The biggest drawback for me was the facial interface, which caused discomfort and light leakage due to its shape.Subpar Hand Tracking: While present, the hand tracking lacked accuracy and responsiveness, with noticeable latency.Smaller App Store: The app store, while growing, is still not as robust as some competitors.Overall, the Pico 4 Ultra is a strong contender, especially for its mixed reality capabilities and effortless full-body tracking. If the facial interface fits you well, and you're looking for a solid all-around VR experience, it's definitely worth considering, especially with the pre-order bundle. However, be mindful of the less-than-stellar hand tracking and the comparatively smaller app library.

Upgrade from Oculus Rift S gen1
Upgraded from a wired Oculus Rift S gen 1, and the difference is night and day, really I didnt believe the advertising before that its more comfortable and provides a better image or that it can do streaming from pc wirelessly without issues.Well all those came true, streaming is awesone no hiccups with av1 decoding/encoding, games work perfectly virtually no lag, its almost not noticeable, beat saber does have a bigger delay but with adjustment its almost the same, and the best part if you want it to be the same, just grab a type c cable and use it wired!Screen and ipd adjustment are amazing, in the rift s i could clearly see the pixels with this its way less noticeable. The clarity is great and the colors are well oled cannot be beaten, no more grey darks, and no more yellow whites.Pico connect app works fine, sone settibg tweaking is required for better quality but it still is a great streaming app, and yes it works with youtube and with sbs movies. There is a pico app store and some games can be found on it but i still prefer streaming from steam.Updates are pushed fairly often and all settings are adjustable, developer mode is easy to unlock and adb debugging is also available. As for other settings Hand control is also great, no controllers required! Its a bit of a weird mess but when the lighting is good it works amazingly.Definitely my new favorite.

A good replacement to the Reverb G2
I bought this after a few tube reviews, particularly Simhanger and VR Flightsim opinions which are based on the Pico4 not ultra. For FS2020 the Pico Ultra beats the G2 on the clarity, increased clearer view. Using the Pico connect app this gives you the option to tether via USB cable to the PC, the untethered method via Wifi worked surprisingly well too, but I think its more stable wired for FS2020.Their software also gives you tweaking options for resolution and colour etc. which have enhanced FS2020 for me.Weight, comfortably balanced on the head with the battery at the back, far better than the bricks of the G2&Quest 2.A fan in-built to the HMD which is quiet but does stop my face melting as it did with the G2. This was the deal maker .There maybe better headsets out there but my retirement of the much vouched G2&Q2 may stand for something.Suffice to say for VR in FS2020 you still need a powerful PC.Also its a good standalone headset as per Quests .

Perfect 1st VR headset
The media could not be loaded. Great headset, confortabil to wear and modern design and the battery life seems to be decent, perfect as a first VR headset, you get a few free games plus another one when you send feedback. If you have already the Pico 4 don't upgrade,no significant/visible improvement, wait for the next model.Downsides: store content and no monthly subscription compared to competitors.

it works great! but…
the device itself is great. works brilliantly, but at the moment there aren’t many games that makes use of it.

Great hardware made pointless with the omission of an option to connect to PC through Displayport.
Great lenses, great high resolution panel, really good tracking, good camera for passthrough. The software setup is also really good.Sadly quite a few games on the Pico Store don't work on it, doesn't have jack connection for earphones and the PC connectivity without any option to use Displayport, like on the Pico Neo3 Link makes this a much worse option even though the hardware got better in a lot of areas.I really hope their next VR headsets will have Displayport / HDMI support, as the standalone and wireless connection options are orders of magnitude worse : (

Fantastic all round
What a great headset, I've had the Quest 2 and recently bought the Quest 3 but decided to give the Pico 4 Ultra headset a try and glad I did, the operating system and everything else beats the Quest 3 hands down, the only downside is the game library isn't so expansive as the Quest's but there is still more than enough to keep you happy.I'm now will probably sell my Quest 3, I'm so glad I took the plunge and bought this Pico headset, you won't be disappointed 👍
