This item only acts as an agitator. What it will clean relies on the solution you put the parts in to. A plain stainless steel media and water will clear off loose dirt and some grime, but if you want to clean off corrosion/tarnish or other things you will need to use some sort of acid. Such as citric acid or something similar. And then several rinses afterwards. As far as weight of automotive parts it shouldn't have an issue with nuts and bolts, but as far as certain carb parts it may have issues due to the size/weight of the parts. The items may just slide and sit at the bottom while the tumbler rotates. But again, if you are wanting to clean corrosion/tarnish, letting the items sit in a diluted acid bath will do what you want.

Can the tumbler be used for rock tumbling?

I don't see why not but I think 1 with a rubber tub would work better and be a lot less noisy

Will this work for 338 Lapua Mag cases?

I have been happy with the results on .308. I believe you will like the results on 338 Lapua. Definitely better than dry media tumbling.
