Well designed and sturdy.
I have put together quite a few "furniture in a box" projects in my travels. I would have to rate my experience, with Prepac, as near the top of the list for quality, design, and sturdiness. The materials are solid and the finished piece is both impressive and attractive for the price point. The assembly, as with all "ship flat" furniture... is no walk in the park... but the instructions are clear and everything fits together perfectly. I would, highly, recommend 2 things for the assembly. An electric drill with a Philips head screwdriver bit... and an extra pair of hands. This can be done by yourself... without an electric drill... but plan on setting aside quite a chunk of time when doing it this way. The drill will cut your assembly time by 3/4... at least... and the extra pair of hands will help a great deal. Overall, I was very impressed with everything about this dresser. The only problem I encountered was that a few small pieces of hardware were missing... and one of the drawer face pieces was damaged a bit in shipping... but the company shipped out replacements right away.

I was scared to buy, but I don't regret my purchase! Love!
I read through countless reviews on this dresser and multiple others. There are so many horror stories of boxes and materials being damaged, dressers being junk, etc. I debated buying from my local furniture store, but the dresser at $200 wasn't quite what I wanted (antique chic, and I wanted clean white; wrong size; etc.). I would then have to pay for delivery which was $50 to leave it at my door or $100 to bring it inside my home. I need multiple dressers, so this quickly went over my price range and out of my budget. Back to Amazon I went...and decided to take a chance on this beautiful dresser.I must say I was pleasantly surprised when the dresser arrived EARLY. The box was a little banged up, but the materials are packed with spray foam and were in PERFECT condition. Not a nick on them! All pieces were there and accounted for. It took my husband and I about 2 hours to assemble. The instructions were easy to follow. There were some screws that were tough to get in, but we managed! We hand tightened everything to ensure we wouldn't overtighten. The drawers slide easily. The dresser is very sturdy. It looks wonderful. I can fit drawer organizers in it. I'm buying another for the kids. My husband isn't even complaining that we'll have to put another together... :DIn regards to quality... some of the dresser is MDF (medium density fiberboard) instead of real wood. I one hundred percent expected this based on reviews and price point. It doesn't feel flimsy at all. The drawers are real wood. The bottoms of the drawers are a type of thick cardboard, which is pretty typical. The back of the dresser is mostly mdf. The supports are real wood. The legs are real wood. The drawer pulls are a nice, heavy metal. I would expect this dresser to survive decades in a non-abusive home, 10+ years with small children, and a couple of moves so long as the movers aren't overly rough with it. If you have children who climb into drawers of dressers... well, I think you need to invest in a better quality one to withstand that abuse! So far my kids are leaving it alone, but we'll see if that changes once I get the next one (which goes in their room).Overall, we're pleasantly surprised with this dresser and can't wait to buy another one next month!

Easy Assembly-Fair Price
The Prepac Sonoma Superior 5‑Drawer Chest earns consistent praise for delivering great value, stylish appeal, and practical storage—but assembly is where some buyers hit speed bumps. Here’s a balanced overview based on user feedback:⸻👍 What People Love1. Stylish & Spacious Design• The Sonoma design — featuring a clean laminated finish, curved top edges, pewter-style knobs — blends easily into many room styles .• Drawer dimensions (~24.75″ W × 5″ H × 12.5″ D) offer ample space for clothes and linens .2. Solid Build Quality• Engineered wood with solid pine drawer sides and metal glides make it sturdier than typical ready-to-assemble (RTA) furniture .• Drawers slide smoothly and include safety stops to prevent them from falling completely out .3. Excellent Value• Many reviewers highlight the great balance of quality and affordability for the price .⸻⚠️ The Assembly Woes1. Time‑Consuming & Sometimes Frustrating• Users often report it taking 2–4 hours, with assistance recommended .• One Redditor summed it up well:“this thing took me and another person **TWO AND A HALF HOURS to put together… I have never been so aggravated in my LIFE.” 2. Parts & Labeling Issues• Many say pieces aren’t labeled; some dowel holes need adjustment or reinforcement .• One buyer noted missing screws—though replacements were available:“…missing a screw for the knob… You could probably get a replacement from your local Lowe’s.”3. Vulnerable Finish• Minor scratches and dings are common out of the box; a felt-tip marker for touch-ups often ships with it .4. Material Concerns Over Time• Drawer bottoms are thinner and may degrade with heavy use .• Some mention light odours or smell from new particleboard — airing out pieces before final assembly may help .⸻🔍 Final Verdict• Great for: Buyers wanting a stylish, spacious chest with solid value and don’t mind the DIY effort.• Plan accordingly: Set aside a chunk of time (2–4 hours), have at least two people, and prep tools like a drill, hammer, and possibly glue.• Tip: Inspect everything on delivery, label parts as you go, keep hardware organized, and touch up scratches promptly.⸻✅ Bottom LineIf you’re okay with a bit of assembly hustle, the Sonoma Superior 5‑Drawer Chest delivers above-average sturdiness, smooth drawer action, a clean look, and excellent price-to-quality ratio. Just bring patience (and maybe a friend) to the setup—and it’ll serve well for years to come.
