How many wires does this thermostat require? I have a 4 wire install on my present one and don't want to rewire everything.

Most standard programmable require 2 wires for 24v , and one each for fan, heat and ac. So that’s 5. What you need is a battery operated for the program or some type of thermostat that utilizes a bleed resistor .

Does it support wi-fi, so I can control it via my smart phone for example?

This thermostat has the ability to be controlled wirelessly, when paired with the Red Link Internet Gateway (THM6000R1002).

Does this thermostat have capability to work with a remote temp sensor in another room?

It works with the RedLINK wireless indoor sensor (model#C7189R1004).

do I need redlink to use this thermometer or can i just use it manually?

You can use it manually. Redlink allows you to control via the internet but not sure it’s actually supported anymore as they have newer thermostats. You can program it manually if you want the temp to change during the day, say drop to 60 when you are not home & rise to 65 when you are home.
