Amazingly versatile microphone. Works as a video camera mic also!
I was using a Rode Video Mic on my Micro Four Thirds camera, a Panasonic GX8. However, I was frustrated by the very narrow sound window, and lack of stereo sound, and it wasn't exactly travel friendly either.I also use my phone when there is enough light. So I wanted something that worked with everything. It turned out that the MV88+ works well with Phones, Cameras, and Laptops. As a phone mic it works amazingly well. You can alter the stereo width, set it to a narrow mono, side channel, you name it. The video and audio apps from Shure work well. The mic also works with any other app on the phone without issues. The dynamic range is great, pick up the smallest sounds, and loudest thunder without clipping. When set to wide stereo there is a great sense of presence when you listen back to the audio on headphones. You can use this as a SLR/Mirror-less video microphone also. All I had to do was calibrate the input level on my camera and the headphone output until the levels were correct. With the right adapter cables, it even works in stereo on the Panasonic GX8. The microphone saves its setting even when not connected to a phone. And the headphone output works, even when the microphone is only connected to a USB battery power pack. There is no latency on the headphone output. It also works well on laptops and desktops as a USB microphone. You do still have to connect it to a phone to alter any settings. Note it works with a normal USB-A to Micro cable on Windows, no need for USB-C if you don't have it.The whole kit stores in a wrap that unrolls into a flat set of five pockets. There are also elastic straps on the outside that work to hold the mini-tripod. When warped up, it takes up about as much space as tall coffee mug. It is very portable and easy to setup. The phone kit consists of a Manfrotto brand clamp and tripod. The phone clamp is good, but there is no spring action, so your phone is held only by how tight you can get the knob. The good news is the top is a cold-shoe, and the bottom is a 1/4-20 thread, so you can replace the whole clamp with something better if you want. The tripod is high quality. It has a easy release button, and stays when you put it. You can attach the microphone directly to it, without the phone clamp, to make it into a traditional desktop microphone. The arm holding the microphone is a simple clamp, but holds the microphone very tightly. It has a 1/4-20 thread at the base, and a cold shoe attachment that works great on a SLR/Mirroless camera. The microphone body itself appears to be compatible with other traditional microphone grips. The foam ball on the end of the mic can be pulled off, making the profile even smaller where wind isn't a concern. It is still quite small even with a Movo WS-G10 Furry windscreen added. The overall construction of the microphone, and included accessories is top notch. The microphone appears to be all metal. The included cables are sturdy, however they are short. You can use a USB-Micro extension cable to get more distance, even when using the Lightning cable.

Compact feature packed high fidelity portable microphone.
I'm a musician and an audiophile. I know good sound. This little mic is simply amazing. I've owned the MV5 baseball style mic, which sounded just OK, and had a god-awful stand and was mono. Boo. I also have a Rode Video Mic Me Compact TRRS Cardioid Mini - Shotgun Microphone - again, mono, sounds lackluster - better than the iphone's internal mic, but not much. Stepping up in both size and quality is my Blue Yeti, but that thing is a BEAST and it's not compatible with iOS devices as far as I can tell, so I only use it when recording from my DSLR camera or my computer. I'd say sound quality is a dead heat between the Yeti and the MV88+, but the '88 is so much SMALLER and EASIER to set-up and use, it wins hands down. The iOS app is a little janky, and I don't like the (un-ajustable) presets but it's allows you to configure the mic's pick-up pattern and compression, EQ, limiting, etc and these settings are saved to the mic itself, so they are active in whatever app you use to capture your audio, as long as it's compatible with the mic. Again, I'd say sound quality is similar to the Yeti, but you get more control over the '88 via software than the Yeti's dumb but convenient knobs, while avoiding the Abominable Snow-microphone's phallic presence dominating your desk to say nothing of your mouth as you speak into it. Not that there's anything wrong with that if it's your kink, just beware - the Yeti doesn't travel the way this little gem does. In the end both cost the same so it all comes down to what yer after in terms of style and portability.

Micro USB is the biggest head scratcher of this otherwise, impressive portable mic
This kit is impressive and overall a great value considering what you get. The tripod and headphones that come with it make it worth the price. The materials are all very solid and seem extremely durable. Some bits are a bit plasticky but don't feel overly cheap. The headphones are a bit annoying getting them to fit properly but once you figure out the method to allow them to set comfortably in your ear they're great for monitoring your sound levels. The removable windscreen is also a plus. The biggest downside I found is the phone grip can be a little loose feeling with the case I have on my iPhone. Never felt as snug and secure as I would prefer. The audio quality is pretty impressive for the size of the mic itself. The companion app is helpful as well and comes with many presets to fine tune your recording needs. You can always do more in post, but the app allows for some simple profiles that don't require much tinkering. The biggest downside is the fact this device still uses Micro USB which is beyond comprehension in today's day and age. The cables that come with the set are quite short so that will limit your use cases. Highly recommend picking up a cable matters cable with more length to make this more versatile. Overall I am happy with the kit and the quality of the audio captured by this mic.

Almost perfect combination
Let me be clear here...the microphone will change your audio signal so much you can't go back to a computer or phone microphone. If Shure would pair this with a quality gimbal then content creators could one stop shop. If Shure meets Hohem game over!

Refund process SLOW
Their Refund process is very very slow!! I bought two mics to compare blue tooth vs non blue tooth. I was surprised the receiver was not blue tooth capable to a cell phone. But mic and receiver work well and quality is good.
