Will this be powerful enough to remove 36mm hub nuts

36mm is way beyond the capacity of the DTW300. If it is anything like the VW rear hub nut then you will need to go for the most powerful one you can get. The 300 is good for general maintenance, prob. around 21mm max.

would this be better than my current ryobi thats 400nm ?

This Makita impact wrench will go up to 580nm, it is extremely powerful and very much a professional tool, with its 4 stage trigger you do have a high level of control. However, unless you have a number of Makita cordless tools I would recommend you purchase this item complete with battery and charger.
