It is much less than 1%, but % is not a useful comparison for this product and povidone iodine. 10% Povidone iodine contains 10,000 parts per million (ppm) of total iodine but only one form of iodine (molecular iodine) in povidone iodine is the active species. 10% Povidone iodine contains only a 1-3 ppm of molecular iodine All the other forms of iodine present in povidone iodine contribute to staining and toxicity but are not active. The ioRinse product doesn't stain and is much safer to use than povidone iodine because it has only trace amounts of the other staining and toxic species of iodine. At the same time it is more effective because it has 100 ppm of the active molecular iodine compared to the only 1-3 ppm of active molecular iodine in povidone iodine.
