I think the title describes it all. This part was reasonably priced and looked excellent out of the box, the replacement procedure was as you'd expect for a tiny Apple MacBook pro, and the customer is happy. One thing I will tell those that are looking for a drive for an A1278: there are at least two different chassis for computers with that model number, and the replacement optical drives are different. I had to get the part number from the old drive to get one that worked in this laptop, and I have an extra drive now that didn't fit. When you go to put it in, if the mounting screws don't line up exactly, it's likely that it won't work in your laptop. Just saying.

Works well! Install was easy and it works as it's meant to.EDIT: After about a year, it started making a grinding noise and is really loud upon booting. Really loud. Think like old floppy disk drive loud. It reads things about 50% of the time and doesn't like to eject disks; only will about 60% of the time and sometimes required a reboot to get them out... Try another brand.

Received promptly. Exact replacement for DVD drive in a MacBook Pro (A1278) unibody laptop; works great. This is easy to replace if you take care with respect to the connectors, screws, mounting hardware, etc. If you haven't opened a MacBook Pro unibody previously, I would recommend you review the You Tube "how to" video on replacing the CD/DVD drive on a MacBook Pro. It will make things easier for you.

I'm sure it's ok but while it states that it is a replacement for the GS21N, the holes for the screws don't line up. I had to return this and order the actual GS21N replacement.

This superdrive, which I installed to replace the drive in my mid 2009 Macbook Pro, works better than the original part in that the burn speeds are better. The only thing keeping me from giving 5 stars, is that sometimes I get a media misread error or an I/O error. I usually just eject the media and immediately put it back it, and that does the trick. Other than that, drive is great and great service from the seller.

As advertised, easy to install, no problems at all! Would recommend this product to anyone that needs to get their Macbook going again. I had no use of my old drive and purchased this to fix my issue.

Removing the old drive and installing this new GS41N superdrive takes some time and effort. The first disc loaded and played normally. The second and subsequent discs either were spit out or were loaded after serious grinding noises. Clearly this is one of the drives that should not have gotten through quality control. It seems from the product reviews at least 10% of these drives arrive DOA or fail almost immediately. It is clear quality control is lacking. Considering the effort required to remove the old drive and install a new one each new drive should be adequately tested for normal function prior to shipment. I am quite disappointed.

Works great. Follow simple step by step instructions and your good to go. You just need magenetized mini Philip’s head screw driver and a plastic pry tool. Worked great, saved a bunch of cash by DIY.
