Q: Can you place this pot directly on a propane gas burner (without a double boiler setup)?

I use a similar aluminum pot without the insulated handle on a low heat on the gas stove. Works fine just use a pot holder when picking it up.

Q: What’s the Best way to clean it and get remaining wax out?

I heat it up, and then wipe out the majority of the remaining wax with a paper towel, then use goo-gone to get the last of the wax residue out, and then hand wash it with a soft sponge

Q: Can I use this with gel wax?

Sure! There’s great information on WikiHow about “How to make a gel candle“ and, of course, starts with how to melt the gel.

Q: When using the "double boiler method" does this pot sit in the water? I thought the purpose of a double boiler is steam heats the wax.

I use this as the outside pot and use a pyrex glass measuring cup (2C) to sit inside of it to melt the wax. It works great.
