Super Smooth
Beautiful pencils. The core is soft and super smooth. They just glide onto the paper. Intense and vibrant coloursthat can produce the subtle of effects when used lightly, but can also produce great depth with a little more pressure. Layering and blending is up there with the best of them. They do need careful sharpening. Electric and hand cranked sharpeners are just too aggressive. I use a cheap plastic hand sharpener, but make sure it's sharp. If I had one criticism it would be that a greater selection of greens would improve the set. In fact I would like to see Windsor and Newton produce a bigger more comprehensive set.

Wonderful pencils
Now, I have just about every coloured pencil you could name - from budget sets to Holbein. I am … an addict! I am so impressed with these beauties! The pigment is intense and lays down beautifully smooth. Blending is effortless and colour range is beautiful for a limited 48 set. They sharpened beautifully with a Derwent desk sharpener and the points were robust. Some did break with pressure, but then so do other way more expensive pencils! My only disappointment is - when will a 120 piece set be available?! Well done Windsor and Newton, these are wonderful pencils!

Vibrant.
The colours are fairly vibrant but I'm not finding them easy to use. Maybe I'm more used to layering and should do more blending instead. One of the greys seems to break easy as well. I'm sure this is just a bad apple in the bunch because it only seems to be this one. All in all they're good for the price you pay.

Do not waste your money on these.
I am a colour pencil artist with many years experience so therefore I have used many different brands of pencil over the years, I respect Winsor Newton as a manufacturer of quality art materials and I thought I would give their pencils a try. They are packed in a nice tin and the colours look appealing . I started by sharpening as I always do, colour pencil artists love a sharp point so that your strokes and marks can be precise, I always use a hand cranked tabletop sharpener that gives me great points with every other brand, but not these! The Winsor and Newton pencil just crumbles away and before I ever got the chance to put pencil to paper I had half a pencil. Thinking it may be the sharpener I tried sharpening another brand and quickly achieved a fine point as it usual. To say I am disappointed is an understatement, in fact I am almost angry that pencils being sold under the name of Winsor Newton are so poor and in my opinion not fit for purpose. The cheaper brands such as Castle Arts and Arteza are producing a much superior product for a better price. I intend to contact Winsor Newton to complain about the quality of this product. I did use a hand held sharpener to give a short point to some of the other colours and tried drawing and blending, the colour pigment is quite strong but they don’t feel right going down on the paper and I am sorry to say they do not blend very well. My verdict on these pencils is A Total Waste of Money not good enough to give a child. Just buy another brand!

Lead damaged
Lovely quality apart from the fact that the leads are constantly braking they box must have been dropped several times. Dissatisfied better patois required.
