What is all the fuss about?
Ok I'll admit, when I first saw the pictures of this guy I initially thought that it was for a smaller figure such as a deluxe due to how simplistic it looked. And that was several months ago, then I hear about them making a leader class premiere or "first edition" of Optimus Prime and I got stoked. I thought to myself, this is fricking awesome, I've seen CGI renderings and then this image pops up of this figure. It was the same mold and everything that I thought was at one point the deluxe figure. It was in fact, the leader class. So I pre-ordered this guy and at $60 it was I thought a bit much, but it being like a sneak preview figure I thought the price was fair. Yes, the transformation for this figure is ridiculously simple, but at first its not as easy as it appears. It's only 15 steps. so it takes little time to transform this guy. The truck alt mode is epic in my opinion. Everything is nice and streamlined very well. The paints apps are very well placed, including the much loved/hate chrome in both modes. Me personally, I don't mind it at all. Both modes have impressed me. The robot mode is very decently sized, he's a solid 10 inch figure and displays very well with other leader classed figures. the sword and shield are very cool accessories. Does the figure have lows?? of course it does, but the highs outweigh them over all. Most people who hate this figure have said the same thing. The transformation is too simple, the chrome looked ridiculous and it lacks articulation. sure they could have added some things here and there but the new direction is to get people back into transformers without getting frustrated over not being able to transform them. As for me, I've been a Transformer fan since the beginning, and I will continue to purchase them not matter how simple or complex they become.

FANTASTIC!! Sturdy and Well Detailed!
LOVE this transformer. I'm not a collector, I am a mother. I have a little 6 year old boy who loves Optimus Prime and breaks things. He's seen this picture and has requested this specific one over and over. He has not yet broken this toy. It is very well designed in the way it clips together. I had a discussion with about the little plastic tabs, how they could break and getting help to transform it. He does very well with it and has carried it all over. The sword is still in tact, no pieces have broken off and the silver has not yet rubbed off as per some other reviews. It may yet do that. One of the better made transformers I've seen. I collected them myself as a kid and wow, have they come a long way.

Action brought to life in ways your vintage Transformers never could!
Coming from a life-long toy collector and fan of Transformers, whom hasn't collected this particular toy line in many years, I'm very impressed. Our childhood Transformers could never bring the action to life like this one can thanks to all of his modern articulation. The chromed-out portions look fantastic and don't appear likely to fade too soon.Does it stack up to a $300 Takara Masterpiece Transformer? Of course not, but those aren't meant to be played with anyway. This one is (by adults AND kids), and he's a lot of fun! In 15 steps he transforms - and even comes with a nice little booklet to walk you through the process, which is great for kids so they can learn how to do it for themselves and not have to rely on an adult time and time again. At the current $60 price point, I think it's a winner. Others will disagree, arguing that it should be cheaper, or painted differently or be capable of doing their laundry for them, but that's toy snobs for you. Personally, I dig him and can't wait for the rest of the T4 line!

not saying I love it, but I do like it a lot
I had recieved my A.O.E First Edition Optimus Prime on the 2/6/14. Came rather quickly ordered on the 3rd. Now when I opened my package I was grabbed immediately by the artwork and the box art its beautiful and badass. Now the figure itself I was very uncertain of at first glance inside the packaging. The Sword and Sheild are huge. The Chrome light piping looked too much. Then after i had taken it out of its package and stood before me, I wasn't impressed yet I was rather suprised. It looks pretty good in robot mode and the piping wasn't bad at all it inhanced it's overall look. The back takes a time to get use too but its not that bad niether. Keeping in mind of the route Hasbro is taking with the simpler less complex approach I'd my only fear was that they would sacrifice detail in design in order to do so, however it is contrary, it doesn't and the open faceplate give it a intimadating appeal to him...is it a shell former? Perhaps but it is without justice. It percise and straight to the point it simpler and easy. No need to justify that...now the vehicle mode is where it truly shines, its superb and the creases are tight that it doesn't look like it transforms at all Imo. The Chrome the paint apps everything about this Truck is great. They couldve chromed the rims $60.00(need I say more)...rubber tires nice touch. Now the downsides:the hands do not swivel the forearm to the hands are whole mold. Thats it, really good articulation some restriction due to the gas tanks hanging down along his side, ankle artics' now I like the new direction I understand the choice, there's going to be flaws but they achieved to make these flaws unconcerning. Its a good figure its not an Rotf Optimus, its a AOE Optimus. This is a collectors item I'm a collector and if you do not purchase this version now you'll regret it financially later. Trust this is the version that Takara would put out, but Hasbro finally made a good call and they release this version instead. This guys is a limited edition. So if your still stuck on ROTF Optimus don't purchase him, if your over Rotf Optimus and ready to move on cop this piece. I'm not saying I love it, but I do like it a lot. So do I indorse this piece? Absolutely.
