I think it’s safe to say these are by far the best books on vintage rimfire rifles out there
I’ve wasted a lot of money and time on books that just didn’t deliver the goods. When it comes to the topic covered in these two books, I found them to be a valuable addition to my library.Regarding other books that promised to cover what these do, there was good information to be found in some, others were a total disappointment. Too many were the equivalent of a steaming diaper load.I’m glad I bought these, my buddy is going to have me pick up a pair for his library.

Well done and entertaining!
Just like with his first book, Walnut and Steel, Mr. Ward has done an outstanding job with his second book on vintage rimfire rifles, Walnut and Steel II. If you enjoy rimfire rifles and especially vintage rimfire rifles this book does not disappoint! Mr. Ward owns or borrows for a lengthy time each rifle he describes. He describes brand and model history, fit, finish, function and accuracy as well as the rifle's individual characteristics. If you are not able to own and shoot any or all of these rifles Walnut and Steel and Walnut and Steel II are the next best thing. Well done Mr. Ward!

I very much enjoyed the book. Photos - Not so much
I really enjoyed reading this book and learning about several models of .22's that I own or would like to own. My only disappointment is that it is very hard to make out detail in the black and white photographs. I can only assume that the Amazon printed (the same day it was delivered) book loses some of the contrast possibly due to the paper being used. In the first volume of the book I could see more detail in the photos. While it's always nice to see the photos of what is being described on the same page, I think I would have prefered seeing a consolidated photo section on better quality paper and in color. Maybe in a revised edition?

For the traditional firearms aficionado!
Great read on traditional 22 rifles of the American sportsman. A must have for those of us that are sick of plastic firearms and long for the quality, traditional guns of yesteryear. Blued steel and walnut firearms are beautiful! I have both book volumes and enjoyed them. They are destined to be in my reference library from now on, true classics and are very well written.

Mixed Review
The book itself would be a four star review if you are into older .22 rifles. WATCH OUT though that first copy I received every third page was not bound into the book and only held by friction of bound in pages on each side of it. So the book initially looked OK to flip through, but if you opened it up fully and really started reading the unbound pages would start to fall out.Defective copy received about 8/15/22. Replacement copy received 8/23/22 was not defective. So if you buy this inspect it carefully when you receive it, since of my 2 book sample it was 50% defective.

Great reference book for the everyday collector
This book and it's predecessor are very informative for the everyday collector who appreciates finely made classic 22s and does not want to get caught up in the "collectable merry go round".
