A very well thought out and high quality cookbook
I am an avid cookbook collector and read them like an actual book. I am not through reading this charming cookbook yet, but wanted to hurry up and write an actual review, which I don't do very often. Upon receipt of this book you will notice how heavy and for the lack of a better word, beefy it is. Mr. Matheson has a great narrative in which he describes his life in his colorful vernacular. If you've ever seen him on Viceland, his writing is a direct reflection of him as a host as well. I'd like to compliment him on a job well done, the pages of this cookbook are thick, and the quality of the book you can feel in its pages. I LOVE the wide margins (I often take notes in my cookbooks), the photos are beautiful and enhance this book in every way possible. I have yet to try any of his recipes at this time but the read has been fun, I may come back and do a follow up a review when the time comes.

Contains no recipes from Suppertime and I feel lied to
No one eats Beef tongue, Rabbit, or any of the french cuisine listed in this cookbook. I thought this book would be the recipes from the VICE show Suppertime! as this book is advertised on that show but none of the recipes from the show are even in this book.It is an okay biography but not a good cookbook, so I give it 2 stars. I got a Refund because I wanted a cookbook that I dont need to hunt for strange meat like quail or water buffalo or some other pretentious french ingredient.TLDR; Cookbook too Canadian

Some great ideas, and the best struggle meal around.
Bologna Bowl is reason enough to get this cookbook!

Matty Matheson is a straight up OG in the kitchen!
Alright, this my very first cookbook. I just received it today and I have to say I really love the quality of the book, very clean and well made. Now for the receipts:Some of them are way left feild for anything I would try...(Grilled Beef Tongue). But, there are tons of receipts that I'm going to be trying. I also like how there are little stories inside the book to really get you to connect with the chef and why he cooks the way he does.If your thinking of buying this book...BUY IT!!I mean for real it's Matty Matheson you can't go wrong!!!

cookbook or novel
This book is more a story with a few recipes. Most of the recipes are not what the average person will prepare. If I can remember(I returned it) one of them was a recipe for seared beef tongue. Oh yeah we have that every week and I was just looking for a new way to prepare it. I thought the story was entertaining but I bought a cook book based on his previous cookbooks and it wasn't anything like that.

Just buy it.
Matty is a person that just loves life and great food and likes to share them both with people he loves. This book and the recipes in it almost all relate to a story or time in his life associated with memories of his. A lot of great stories and background and can't wait to try these recipes. And for a Canadian he wrote a book with an American sized serving size, it's pretty big.

My First Cook Book!
If you like watching Matty on YouTube, then you will love this book.It has everything from bologna bowls that take 60 seconds in the microwave, to exquisite seafood dinners that take all day to prepare. The short stories that Matty has behind every dish are funny yet touching, and the pictures are beautiful.I consider myself a subpar cook, but there is so much I can learn from this book with the very simple instructions that Matty provides.Oh, mama!

Not just a cookbook!
I bought this because Matty Matheson is hilarious and his food looks delicious. I thought it would just be page after page of recipes and pictures. But it's actually a lot of background and fun stories of the restaurant business and growing up. I would read for fun even without the recipes. I'm cooking the mussel stew this weekend.

A Culinary Life Story
Excellently put together book, high quality from cover to cover, nice wide margins on the recipes for making notes and personal alterations, photography is very well done. the recipes themselves are unique and come from a special place from Pig Tail Tacos to Blackberry Coffee cake there really are some weird and wonderful recipes. this does come with a downside in that it can be offputting to try some of the recipes because of the specialist ingredients required although these are few and far between.Matty has put his heart and soul into writing this, and it comes across more like a compilation of letters from a friend telling you how he became who he was today throwing in the most important recipes from the various chapters of his life along the way than your general cookbook. For me that is what cooking is about, you don't do it for yourself you do it to share an experience with others and this and Matty convey it brilliantly.

A great book but not what I expected
A beautiful book, but not what I expected. The book itself is great, full of well written recipes and side stories, and it has lots of high quality pictures to match. However, a lot of these recipes use meat I've never even heard of, and some ingredients that are definitely not easy to come by. I was expecting recipes similar to those seen on the YouTube series Just a Dash but none of them make an appearance here.I can't fault the book at all but it's not what I thought it would be. There's lots of seafood, bizarre cuts of meat and some rather unappetising sounding ingredients... So if you don't like shellfish or boiled pig heads, maybe this isn't for you (or me)

Probably the best cookbook i've ever owned.
This almost surpasses being 'just a cookbook'. It's basically an autobiography of a man's relationship with food. In addition to this it's littered with great recipes, some basic some complicated, but all delicious (so far). Recommend thoroughly.

Lots of information inside
My grandson was delighted with this cookbook, not to my taste, more suited to the younger generation I think.
