They are made by collaborative ventures of tribal silkworm rearers, rural women yarn makers, and hand loom weavers in the hinterlands of India. We are providing sources of livelihood and hope for many who otherwise would have no income opportunities in their remote villages. The principles of FAIR TRADE are adhered to in every step of the manufacturing process. No child labor is involved at all. We use three natural silk types in our collection, Tussar, Eri, and Ahimsa, which are eco-friendly and produced humanely. The type of silkworm used in the production of Tussar silk is reared on wild trees, as they do not feed on plucked leaves. Eri silk is the product of a domesticated silkworm type that feeds mainly on castor leaves. Ericulture is a household activity practiced mainly for protein rich pupae by the tribal. Ahimsa/Cruelty-Free silk products are manufactured without killing large numbers of silkworms in contrast to the traditional processes. Ahimsa silk is extracted after the silkworm has completed metamorphosis and emerged from the cocoon.
