Fitting tribute to blues guitar maestro Rory Gallagher and other musicians
As a lifelong Rory Gallagher fan and a fan of blues rock, I enjoyed this book immensely. Bluesman Rory Gallagher and his battered Stratocaster guitar inspired countless guitar players most famously Johnny Marr of the Smiths, Slash from Guns N Roses, the Edge from U2 and many more. The book offers insightful first hand accounts from those who knew Rory best like his brother Donal, original Taste bass player Eric Kitteringham and others. There is also a strong focus on Gallagher’s life in Cork and his recording career.Even with Rory Gallagher featuring prominently in the book, it is not solely about Rory and his achievements in rock and roll. It features many other notable bands and songwriters who come from Cork in Ireland. Many may not be household names but their stories are entertaining and at times very funny.Blues and rock aficionados will enjoy the lengthy well researched Rory Gallagher sections as he was a true champion of the blues and in my view the greatest Irish rock musician of his generation.

A fairly unique Irish music book
Really enjoyed this fairly unique book. It's the first book to give a detailed history of Cork rock music together with various biographies of the people and bands in rock music in Cork through the decades. Blues guitarist Rory Gallagher, Taste, Finbarr Donnelly, Nun Attax, Microdisney, Five Go Down To The Sea, the Franks and Walters and the Sultans are all in there. Pretty comprehensive with lots of interviews and stories from eye witnesses. Stuff about old venues like the Arcadia Ballroom and U2's concerts there and Sir Henrys is in there too. If you like Irish rock music or music from Cork then Cork Rock is definitely worth a read.
