Does anybody have experience with making bread with this machine, especially with heavy dough?

I've used my Artisan to mix wholemeal seeded sourdough several times without any problems. It's very easy to think its not mixing properly and keep adding water but I find adding around 200ml water slowly and leaving the machine to run for a while, the machine will pick up all the flour and you end up with a lovely dough. You have to trust the machine in this instance and let it do its job. Happy baking!

What is the reason for the red colour to cost almost £100 more compared to the official websites at £399?

I am 99% sure it will be based on current stock levels. As the person who has already answered stated they have the red one and for them that was the cheaper option. At the moment it is the silver. There is zero difference in the machines on this page, they are all the same models with different colours however it will be that in whatever warehouse these things are stored in when it came to putting them on a sale discount price they had far more of the silver ones. Sale prices are traditionally employed to either shift old stock to make room for new or for seasonal sales (such as crimbo) the sale will greatly reduce the sellers profit on each sale but (hopefully) greatly improved the number that they sell. For example making £50 profit per unit selling a few a month most of the year and a one off price for a week that is too good to resist for the hundres of people who want to buy this; making only £10 profit but selling hundres of them at once etc etc. In summary, at this exact moment they have loads of silver so that is getting the slightly cheaper price right now

Is the colour Candy apple or Empire red?

The one I ordered was described Candy apple/Empire red and was actually red, as the one in the photo.

Is the body of this unit plastic or metal

The body is metallic very robust good quality

Practical and everyday usability

Love it. Best kitchen appliance I’ve ever bought. Love all the attachments for it and its versatility. It is a heavy appliance that you will use everyday. Also looks sexy in a kitchen and the colour choice is amazing. Well made and practical. I understand it’s pricey but believe me the cost out ways the practicality. I waited a long while to get one. I should have done it sooner.

Best Gift Ever

versatile, robust, quiet... and stylish... or maybe not.

Machine it self works quiet. It is heavy, but lets be honest, a good engine just have to be like that. It makes dough with no sweat and results are just amaizing. If comes to attachements so far I only got shredder/slicer but what I saw... I bet this machine can deal with a whole cow and wont even heat up. Can not wait till I get more attachements and start to use it to full.Update. After a year of use, when I used it maybe 20 times in that time, machine is a complete wreckage. Had to replace worm gear already, and now attachment gear doesn't take any load, mincing machine attachment jammed on a frickin cooked carrot! It spins when nothing is attached but just try to touch it with your finger and it stops. Great christmas time, tons of food to process and my only helper gone dead. For the price I really expected something more.
