Great Night Pilot Companion (Red Light Variant)
I bought this for use in the cockpit of a plane whilst flying at night. The red light is bright enough to see and the wavelength of the red light allows me to retain my adjusted night vision to be able to fly safely at night under VFR.Worth noting that the red light is provided by a red LED and not a white LED with a red filtered lens. There are three modes; bright, dull and strobe. I was worried that I would be bombarded with flashing light when I activated the switch after not having turned off the light from the strobe setting, but I was pleasantly surprised when I found the torch resets itself to the default setting of bright when turned off for longer than 20 seconds.I have since purchased a backup as the price of £8 is a good deal for this product. It is much better to have a second unit ready to go should the batteries expire at an inconvenient time when busy with more important things like looking for traffic.

Excellent
This is a very small torch with a big light. It is easy to carry or attach to a belt. It lights up the night sky really well. The torch has two settings , a small intense one & an expanded light. Very pleased with it

Works well but why the unnecessary strobe effect.
I use this for astronomy and it works just great. Takes rechargeable AA batteries and plenty bright enough. Light in weight but robust. Fits in the hand, pocket or teeth just fine. The inevitable just because we can strobe effect is irritating but it's only a small point. I like the wide to narrow focus. When the foxes tried to scare me away the other night their eyes glowed like demons from a b movie. Awesome! I just need it's white light cousin now. Recommended apart from the strobe which isn't that big a deal.

Not perfect but...
First things first, for the price this a well built little flashlight. Id actually rate it 4.5 stars if I could. I own a Celestron astronomy flashlight that I bought for, well erm... astronomy. Its trash and cost four times as much. This modest little red light torch crushes it. Note, the bright mode is quite bright, but the dim setting is perfect for astronomy.Pros.Excellent build qualityEven light pattern, ideal for astronomy useTakes both AA and 14500 rechargeable batteriesCons. No battery includedA funky switch activation patternThe cons are minor, if your looking for an astronomy flashlight it's right here. Don't pay 20/30 quid for something from an astronomy retailer just because it is branded, this 7 quid torch beats them all.

SOLVED: TOO MANY SHARP EDGES - INCONVENIENTLY PAINFUL TO HOLD WITHOUT GLOVES
UPDATE 25-3-25: SWITCH STARTED TO FAIL WITHIN A YEAR IT WAS SOON UNUSEABLE. ONE OF THE WORST PRODUCTS I'VE EVER PURCHASED. Badly designed ergonomically although it's a good a design for a torch. It fits in the hand and all the sharp edges cut into your skin unless you wear gloves. The front edges surrounding the lens have six really sharp corners that catch your fingertips, unless you are able to avoid them when picking it up. And the pocket-clip has slightly rounded corners but they're still small enough to be uncomfortable; and the clip's difficult to remove, after which more sharp edges are exposed. If you replace the smoother retaining screws they still interrupt the otherwise smooth feel around the top end. PARTIAL SOLUTION: Wrap some of the smaller size (~ 13 mm wide) Micropore tape around the offending part(s) and then slide the short tube (the "stub" around which the tape was sold) onto the sharp end of the torch. If it slides off too easily, then wrap a little more tape around the end of the torch so that the short tube fits snugly to the end of the torch, just beyond the offending shar parts. If you need to remove the pocket-clip (not needed for my nighttime bedroom use, rather than astronomy) the screws need either strong sharp-nosed pliers or possible a smaller hex key than I've ever seen. With the clip off, the circumference at that point still has sharp edges - more teape, or replace the screws, and you might still prefer tape to smooth it over.

Pros and Cons - Versatile!
Here's what I thought:Pros:-Can adjust focus of the beam very easily-Easy to change the battery-Multiple modes-Small size so its easy to fit in any pocket-One of the cheapest red torches availableCons:-The beam is not that bright compared to expensive alternativesOverall, I was very happy with the product but perhaps paying more money for a better alternative would be better for some.
