Great readers for my 1st grader
I purchased these books to help my daughter (1st grade) get more excited to read. She LOVES them as do I! They are great for a quick before bed read for your kiddo or to take along in the car. She enjoys seeing the characters carry on in the books. I highly recommend them!

Love these
My 5 year old loves these books. The books are really at the reading level they say they are, unlike some other books I've purchased. The characters are endearing and my child love the little baby chick who hatches in the first box set. My child loves watching the little chick grow throughout the books. The illustrations are lovely, much better than the Bob Books, which we also use.

Too many words for age group
I purchased this set for my first grader. He has struggled with school and this year his big challenge is reading fluency. I was hoping to find a book that had graphics that appealed to him and he would enjoy reading. The graphics and title My Very First I can read set gave me the impression it would be maybe 5 or so words to a page. Some pages are only about 5 words others have several sentences. This to me is too hard for a beginner reader. Disappointed and hoping he will still want to try these books once he is reading with better fluency.

Great Level E (and Beyond) Stories
My Kindergartener son is still on Level D but he is starting to read Level E books, I bought these next level readers to try to advance him to the next level. These books I must say are superior to the Level E books from scholastic. Don't get me wrong, I gave the scholastic Level E books 5 stars as well for they are helpful in getting the kids to read, but these have more grown up look, with more punctuation, more of a story/plot and they seem more advanced than the scholastic Level E readers.

Perfect for a struggling reader
Short, simple books to help struggling readers gain confidence. Good for young readers who have difficulty sounding out unfamiliar words or get tired of reading quickly. These are just a few pages long and rely on sight words with the same vowel sounds to carry the simple story. They are books that beginners can read with little or no help. Once they realize that they've read the book themselves, they learn to enjoy reading instead of seeing it as a chore. The more they read, the more they want to read.

Love these for my 6 year old
Love these, they are great for my 6 year old, who is starting first grade in a few weeks. Good use of sights words, challenges him to sound some words out and use phonics rules.

Good practice for 1st grade readers
My 1st grade students love these books. They look like the other I Can Read books, but are smaller and simpler. This set has books for kids who are reading at 1st grade level. The stories are simple, but my kids still find them interesting. The same characters appear in the various stories. As a teacher, I like this set because it has books levels E-G, which can be difficult to find in a box set.

Buy them, they work!
I bought these in the middle of the school year because my daughter was having some trouble reading. I started with the set before this one and then just focused on this set after she tested for level D. The school year is about to end and she is now at level F!!! I am so grateful for these books! They are cute, funny, quick and to the point. She loved the stickers and since they are short she felt confident to read them on her own.

Not bad at all - but all spellings are what we use in the UK.
Be aware that you might want to decide which books in the set you want to actually use with a child. For instance, do you want to use one of the stories which spells 'tyre' as 'tire' That is generally seen as the way the word is spelled in America. I double checked and found this definition of the two different spellings ...."... 'Tire' is the preferred spelling in the U.S. and Canada. 'Tyre' is preferred in most varieties of English outside North America..."If you buy this set and this series, I suggest you go through the books beforehand and then make your own decision(s).As designed and sequenced, the books in the 3 sets do work well .... but ....... ? ? ?

Great read great for learning to read.
Was missing some books with sealed package. The exchange was quick and easy. The product it self from the other tug the pup series show that box set 3 has more advanced words. The entire series is great as it gradually builds on the reading skills. I wish they had more series like this!

Great books for the advancing reader
After working his way through the first three sets of BOB Books, I bought my son all three Tug The Pup boxed sets. Set 3 books are a perfect step up after completing Set 2, and will take your child through to Grade 1-2 reading level. The books are challenging, but not so much as to be frustrating, and they make use of repeated words/sounds/patterns to help children learn how to decipher new words. My son loves the colourful illustrations, and the stories are interesting enough to keep him engaged. They are more like stories than readers, which is nice. They come with reward stickers, which are a big motivator around here :)
