The place we get our deer processed won't make breakfast sausage for us without adding pork. I didn't want the pork. So I bought this Backwoods seasoning and I'm so happy that now I can make my own! Tried it today for the first time and it's really amazing. I love that you can adjust the amount of seasoning based on your own taste. In my opinion, it has just the right amount of salt. Because the venison is so lean, I added 1 tablespoon of melted butter into the 1 oz of water and added that to 1# of meat. It was absolutely delicious! We eat our sausage with a little syrup. This will now be a staple food item in our home! You won't be disappointed if you're looking for a great seasoning mix for your wild game meat.

There are two reduced/low sodium options listed on this webpage. The reduced sodium option is actually the regular sausage mix and contains 450 mg of salt. The low sodium option is the one that contains 290 mg of salt. I made the mistake of ordering the reduced sodium option and received exactly what is pictured, the regular fresh sausage mix not what is in the description. I was able to get a refund and I have now ordered to low sodium option and have my fingers crossed that I get what I ordered. I have always had great results with LEM Backwoods products, once I receive what I thought I ordered.

We usually buy Jimmie Dean regular breakfast. Last pork we had butchered we decided to try our own using this seasoning. It turned out really really good. Not disappointing at all. Highly recommend.
