Better Homes and Gardens: New Cook Book, 10th Edition Review: Better home - This Better Home and Garden cookbook has been around for decades. The recipes are tested before being included in the cookbook. It has information on all kinds of things besides recipes. It’s a very good book to own for beginners as well as those who are familiar with cooking techniques. Review: Take a look, its in a book - Be careful which you buy. I have read a lot of reviews here explaining how the book was used, damaged or otherwise not new. I bought this one "new". The prices were all over the place. Mostly because this book is relatively still vintage, regardless if it was published recently or 60 years ago and was found and sold by a book seller. This edition is smaller in binding than the one I remember having as a kid but it seems to be exactly the same. Granted cooking has changed in 60-100 years from where most of these recipes are adapted, but IMHO the fundamentals haven't changed. The recipe is just creatively tweaked. This is an all you need cookbook. The ring binder makes pulling out the recipes easy so you don't have to lay out a bound book that will close or lose a page while cooking. It also provides nearly any recipe you try to Google. No annoying ads or long stories with bits of the recipe mixed in to make the recipe publishable. Your screen won't time out or have to leave your phone/laptop out where it inevitably will be splashed or damaged. This is the book to get to learn cooking. If you can learn this book, and have creative flair, I believe you can become a master. And probably no need to go to culinary school.

Great find!
Awesome duplicate copy of the one I have had for many many years and love. Came on exactly the condition advertised. My daughter was always asking for my recipes and I tweak them so I was sending her screenshots of my cookbook with minor changes constantly. I’ve had it so long I memorized most of it and never thought about it while cooking.. just whipped it together. Now she has her own copy and only asks for the tweaks lol You can totally make these recipes your own. But a really great place to start with basic recipients and the baking instructions are on point. So glad I could find another copy! Now my daughter and I both have one! *chefs kiss* Lemon bars! Perfect! Just add twice the lemon. 😉

Thanks Better Homes and Gardens!
I have had this cookbook and used it for years. I received my first copy as a gift when I was younger and have used many recipes over and over again. I always recommend this cookbook. Every recipe I have used has been exceptional. I do not remember a recipe that failed. I lost my first cookbook while moving some years ago and was happy to find another copy published about the same year as the one I lost. I also gave a copy to my daughter when she grew up. My mother and grandmother also used this cookbook, so I know from other cooks in the family this was an important cookbook to own. Some of my favorite recipes I have used over and over and keep going back to are lasagna, spaghetti, lemon pie, coffee cake and several cookie recipes. If you purchase only one good basic cookbook, you cannot go wrong with this one. I have now collected a number of Better Homes and Gardens Cookbooks and I know if they are the author of a certain recipe it will probably be good. There reputation precedes them.We all refer to their cookbook as the red and white checked one so I hope they never change the cover.

The Recipes my Kids Remember
As a young mother, it was my favorite cookbook when this edition came out. It remained my favorite, for years, until it was lost in a move. Some recipes were made so simple that I could commit some to memory, once in regular rotation. It's been 10 yrs since it was lost, kids are grown and I eat differently, for the most part. My kids remember food from their childhood that I had forgotten I used to make. I was delighted to find this cookbook again. Most of these recipes are not the ones you find online, they have changed over the years. All of these are basic tried and true, perfect for a new home cook.

Good book
The one I purchased was a used one which I didn't mind . I expected there to be writing and maybe a tear or two, but I was a little surprised to see the previous owner had also placed hand written recipes and cards in it . It reminded me of my moms old books . I thought it was a cool bonus.

Tried & True
If you want to learn how to cook basics from scratch - this is the cookbook for you. Recipes that are Fast or Easy are labeled as such. The 10th edition was printed in 1989 - I've had it since then and it is the one cookbook that I return to over and over again for basic, unadulterated, real, down-home goodness recipes. Not that it doesn't have the occasional short-cut recipe for those who like things fast and simple, but most recipes teach you how to cook from scratch (many of which are fast and simple). I've cooked my family many a meal from these recipes - some of which I modify for my own tastes. I'll never forget the Christmas I told my mother-in-law that I would bring a pie for dessert, only to realize I totally forgot to pick one up at the store beforehand. With no stores open on Christmas, I looked up the recipe for apple pie because I had plenty of apples on hand - I also had sugar, flour, salt, spices, butter and water - and I baked the most awesome apple pie!! I love the 3-ring binder - it lays flat when I'm trying to read the ingredients and mix a recipe at the same time. My cousin likes mine so much she wanted one of her own - I read reviews of the newest 15th edition which complained of too much processed food ingredients. I can't verify that, but she decided she wanted the 10th edition like mine - so I ordered her one.

Staple cookbook
Bought for Christmas gifts. I had older version and kids were excited to get their own copy.

Wonderful cookbook from the beginner to experienced cook. My mother used this book when I was growing up and she gave me a copy fora wedding present many years ago. I lost mine in moe and finally got it again. I highly recommend this book and the seller for stocking such an old classic county cookbook.

This is exactly what I wanted! My mom has an earlier version, but this has all the same recipes I grew up loving. I bought a used copy, so there were a few food stains, but that's to be expected. Very satisfied with this cookbook.

bought it for my daughter, so every time she asks how I make something I can tell her what page I found the recipe on. The secret is out on my old family recipes
