Excellent purchase!
This surpassed any expectations I held. Pros: slide off the top of the box, plug in the extension cord and it’s ready to go! This is lighter weight than I expected (Female/mid thirties). It is fairly easy to pick up and carry. Cleaning is a breeze. As directions state: vacuum well! I have a Miele C1 cat and dog, vacuum daily (I work from home), and hair still came up. However, none was stuck to the machine or bristles when done. Easy to operate. Quieter than expected. Removed two stains from my cat throwing up (treated with biokleen carpet cleaner). Rather than use my handheld machine I waited two days for this to arrive. I have three senior dogs (18,16, and 15) one has kidney disease and is deaf (she was given 30 days to live 5 years ago) and in the last few months has struggled to hold her bladder more often. I am fairly good at catching accidents when they happen (luckily they happen on the hardwood more than the carpet), but I was hoping this machine would take care of what I possibly missed (I began to smell an off urine smell in parts of our room). I must admit I despise carpet. Our bedroom is on the first floor and one of two carpeted areas (the upstairs carpet but two of my dogs are too old for stairs). We recently moved into our home and I could not continue paying a company to come out and clean the carpets (which are new), no matter how often they claimed (green and low scent!) eco-products, my house wreaked like the laundry aisle at target. I have an older cat who has survived cancer twice, an husband who survived hereditary cancer, and needed to continue to minimize exposure to toxic junk. Not to mention the smell left was overwhelming and gave everyone headaches. After running this machine with diluted Puracy cleaner (and then running a rinse cycle over the carpet), only a faint citrus smell is left and carpets look so clean! The water was so brown! The carpets looked cleaner and smelled better than when the professionals have come out. They were also far less damp. I placed a dehumidifier, cracked a window for a bit of winter air, and shut the door to not trigger the thermostat. Cons: it takes forever to use. I may have went much slower than some (I had to refill four times). It took me almost two hours to do our small room. I am not looking forward to doing the living room (but the blessing of clean and fresh carpets outweighs the time it takes to use). If I were only using this a few times a year, I wouldn’t care, but as I know I will replace these carpets within a year, I plan on cleaning them once a month to keep things cleaner. The upstairs where only cats hangout occasionally will see the remainder of uses.

Top Reason (In My Opinion) To Buy This Over a Rug Dr
When I bought this, I was highly skeptical because I have always used a Rug Dr that I rented from a local carrier. I have used them for years and was not really familiar with the Bissell Machine. I bought it after reading some reviews from other people who purchased this particular product. As with everything, there were both positive and negative reviews to go through. Build quality for both machines is good. However, after using both machines, I feel that the Big Green has a better design than the Rug Dr. One of the reviews caught my eye and really swayed me towards this product. It mentioned the ease of cleaning and maintaining the item. The biggest difference between a Rug Dr and the Bissell Big Green Machine is in the way it scrubs the carpet. Rug Dr uses a brush bar that moves from front to back rapidly to scrub the carpet where as the Bissell uses a spinning drum just like a vacuum to scrub the carpet. I have not tried to take apart a Rug Dr to clean it but with the Big Green you just push a small lever and the drum swivels out of the bottom, remove (3) screws and the brush pulls right out. Access to all of the dirt and pet hair is easily removed. Time it takes me to tear it apart and put it back together for cleaning is about 10 to 15 minutes. This is important to me because I do not care how many times you go over your carpet with a vacuum or how long you take to vacuum, there is going to be deep dirt that will come up during cleaning. With pet hair it is the same. Pet hair works its way into your carpet and with a good carpet cleaner it is going to get pulled out and stick to the inside of the machine. I literally just pulled a handful out of it that was stuck to the drum around the brush. Thankfully it is easy to remove so I can get in and clean it out. As far as performance of the two machines, I would say that they are almost equal. I do see that the Big Green has the ability to pull up more of the water than the Rug Dr leaving your carpet dryer after one pass. I have (2) 100+lb bull mastiffs. My female has a bladder control issue so I am cleaning my carpets is a monthly chore for me.. The pet stains do come up. I use the Bissell Advance Clean and Protect with a good pet spot treatment prior to cleaning. That pretty much sums up my review. I do recommend this to anyone who owns a home and is wanting their own machine to keep the carpets clean. It is a decent investment to make but if you are always having to rent one to get it done you may as well buy one. It really does save a lot of my time by having it on hand rather than being at the whim of store hours and the time it takes me to pick it up and return it. Hope this helps.

Best cleaner for home use
I spent a lot of time looking into this. I have expensive wool carpet and rugs I was told steam clean only by the carpet store. I read contradictory information on that online but everyone agreed hot water is bad for the fibers so I was not comfortable buying a steam extractor. I chose the BG 10 based on other recommendations. I used it yesterday and love it. Pros… Lighter weight than the Rug Doctor so it’s easier to work with Easy to fill clean and dirty water tanks My BG10 will be clean every time I use it, as opposed to the dirty and smelly Rug Doctors I rented It works very well at its job…. Cleaning my carpets Leaves the carpet drier than the rented RDs. It pays for itself after the first cleaning of the carpets and rugs versus using a professional We have very hard water here and I believe that many cleanings over the years have left some calcium residuals on the fibers of the carpets that I replaced. Those fibers felt stiff and almost crusty after 15 cleanings. . It wasn’t dirt so I believe it was the calcium in the water. I use distilled water for cleaning the new carpet and did two separate rinse runs with it too. The carpet feels soft. There was zero perfume smell from the Bissell Woolite with Oxy cleaning solution after the rinses The water was still a little dirty even after the second rinse even though the carpets were only a year old, don’t get a lot of foot traffic, and looked clean. That tells me this machine works. I put a couple of fans on and the carpets were dry in about 3 hours. They smell great. If you want to protect your wool carpets and keep them clean, the BG10 will be a great purchase.

Great machine! Amazing how well it’s built. Lighter than expected. Simpler to use than expected. Functions at 10/10 score. The dirty water tank after rinsing looks brand new! They must have used some silicone compound to prevent dirt from sticking. The only thing was that the hose is extra $100. PS. After using it for about 10 minutes, I realized I hadn’t taken out cardboard piece where the suctioning is done. Despite that, the rugs looked amazingly cleaner—a testament to the power of this machine!

The BigGreen arrived a week after I had just washed the carpets using our old household carpet cleaner, so I thought I'd give it a try in our daughter's room. When I went to empty the BigGreen in the bath tub, I was amazed at how dirty our carpet was. While the BigGreen does an excellent job of cleaning our carpets, there are a few Pros and Cons to the BigGreen: Pro: - Tanks very easy to fill, empty, and clean - Brushes on the bottom very easy to remove and clean - Power cord can easily be changed (long yellow extension cord that is included with the BigGreen) - Handle folds down for easy storage - And of course, nice clean carpets Cons: - No accessories included. So, if you plan on cleaning your car or if you have carpets on your stairs, you will need to purchase the hose separately. - Heavy - I found it difficult to maneuver Okay if you are just going backwards and forwards, turning is difficult and sometimes feels like the whole thing is going to tip over (especially if the top tank is full and bottom one is empty). In conclusion, this is the same carpet cleaner you see available for rent at many retail stores. It does an excellent job of cleaning carpets, and is a very good investment for anyone who has pets or kids and want to keep their carpet clean. I've used this a number of times for those "accidents" on the carpet. Very easy to setup and put away.

I used my machine today and I am amazed how great it works. I used to own another brand before but there is no comparison. It is a bit heave but the pay off is that it really dries the carpet well. In a couple of hours my carpet was dry. Considering it is winter that is pretty impressive.

Its a little pricey but you definitely get what you pay for. The commercial version is a little more powerful with better results on really ground in dirt. I realize I could rent one but i think it will pay for itself in no time. Its just a pain loading and unloading in my vehicle. Great product definitely worth it
