Remove ink cartridges when sending printers thru mail.
Please inform buyer and others that whenever they send a printer, to please remove the ink cartridges. When I received the printer and opened the box, ink had leaked all over the printer, box, etc. It was a horrible mess. Thank you, Carolyn

JUST BOUGHT MY THIRD CANON PIXMA IP1600
Just over ten years ago I purchased my first computer. It came with a printer which was very, very noisy, but being a novice it was all I knew. The ink was really expensive, so I bought some cheap ink that wasn't the usual brand for the printer. It messed the printer up so bad, I could no longer use it. I cannot remember what kind of printer it was, but I remember the difficulty I had, trying to put new ink in, it drove me nutsI purchased my first Canon PIXMA iP 1600 several years ago in Circuit City. The reason I bought it, was because it was the cheapest. When I tried it out for the first time, I wasn't watching it when I pressed the print button. When I came back to it, I was surprised it had already printed, I never even heard it. I was so overjoyed, it is so quiet.I still don't use the printer very much because ink is expensive, I always use the Canon ink (40 & 41). I find that even though the computer tells me when I'm running out of ink, there is still a lot left. I don't put new ink in right away, and it always worked. A couple of years ago, after using it with a low ink level for a long time, I noticed the message didn't come up any more to tell me the ink was running low.I put the new ink in, but the printer didn't work properly any more, I tried another new ink cartridge, but it still didn't work. The printer was quite old, I wasn't sure if that was the reason, or if I'd damaged it from not putting the new ink in. The computer had difficulty recognising I'd put a new cartidge in. There was nothing more to do except buy a new printer.I loved the printer so much and didn't want a new super duper printer like they have now. I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to understand it. I was overjoyed when I saw Amazon had several Canon PIXMa ip1600, that was a couple of years ago, I ordered one right away. I'm sure they don't make them any more, but the seller said it was new, it came in the original box with ink too. I was delighted, it works just fine. I still don't use it very often, but now when it tells me the ink is low, I don't wait so long until I put the new one in.I recently noticed the Canon PIXMA iP1600 is still being sold on Amazon. I was worried because one day they won't be available any more. I saw one for a great price and decided to purchase it as a spare. The seller said it was new, but didn't have the original box or CD (which I didn't need) no ink either, but the price was so good I bought it.It looks good, but I noticed the USB cable was a bit crushed, where you plug it in the printer. I took the cable off the old printer and tried it, it works. I emailed the seller, and he sent me a new cable very quickly. I'm really happy that I will be using my Pixma's for many years to come hopefully.

Dishonest Seller
Purchased this used Canon PIXMA iP1600 Photo Printer which advertized as "like new, works smoothly,...". In actuality, it was a beat-up and non-functioning piece of junk. Contacted the seller immediately by email. The seller claimed to be a student and promised to refund the amount by installment and would arranged for return shipment. However, never heard from him again, even after months. I don't mind paying $34 for a piece of junk but being cheated is another story.

You get what you pay for...
I bought this printer because I wanted high quality photo printing and I didn't need any of the bells and whistles that come with more expensive printers. It's a Canon, so I figured I could count on the photo quality. I was terribly disappointed though. I generally buy Staples brand photo paper for general photo printing, and it always worked fine with my Epson printer. But my first prints on this printer looked dull and muddy -- like I was looking at the images though a mild but annoying grey/brown haze. So I went out and bought Canon paper instead. The quality was somewhat improved, but still not what I had expected. So yes, I got a printer for under $30, but now to get even passably OK prints, I need to spend a fortune on Canon brand inks and paper. Not much of a bargain.

Expensive Printer in Long run
After Printing 45 colored 4x6 and 3-4 large size Photos the color cartridge ran out of colour. The cost of the color cartridge is $25.00 So I got my photo $25/50 0r .50 cents per print. In the long run this printer is very expensive. I had i560 and used to print at least +100 Photos. Print quality was also good. If you need only B/W text print then printing cost will be far less.Print quality is good if you setup the printer at best quality and use Canon Photo Paper. I also used Kodak Paper the print was very bad.REC: Research and Buy some other printer that will be inexpensive in long run.

Canon PIXMA iP 1600 printer review
I didn't purchase this for printing photos; cost and features drove the decision. The ink reservoirs are large, easy to insert. Quality of prints, both color and b&w, are as claimed. Photo quality prints are satisfactory. Unit is compact although not real small. Good value for the money.

Still printing after all these years
This was one of the first things I bought from Amazon and its still working flawlessly and efficiently. When I bought a new computer that had Windows 7 it took me a while to figure out where to find the correct updated drivers so it would work, and I don't remember exactly what I did but I got it working. I'd be sad if I lost this printer, it only costs me $5 in cheap refill ink every couple of months and I print a lot.The quality is good enough for me. Pictures look good and shipping labels I print from it are scannable so that's really all I need. It's really easy to use ink refills on this model too & I've heard that's something they try to make difficult in newer models - but I haven't had to deal with a new printer in a long time so I don't know.
