La Isla (Spanish Edition) (Picture Puffin Books)

Really cute book. We are raising our son to be bilingual and need more books in Spanish! We have the original Abuela in Spanish and love this companion. My three year old enjoys the story line of them flying around. It’s wonderful to have main characters that he can identify with as a Latino kid.I’m also happy to read on repeat (important!)

This is a really good story and I like the quality of the book itself. However, as a Puerto Rican raised in PR, I have issues with the translation. There are no "selvas" in PR, there's only forests/rainforest; we don't call children "chicos", we don't call the Puerto Rican parrots loros, they're cotorras. And if we are talking about singing toads, then it's coquis. I would take less issue with it if the book's topic was about something else. Anyways, I am keeping the book for the subject and story, but I've gone through and corrected the terms

I love these books. It is really magical and it is a delight to read to my kid. I hope more books of these collection will come.

So happy to have found this adventurous sequel to Abuela. Such imagination and color inspires the imagination of my students every time!
