Injected with a dose of north woods style and know-how, the Yukon Cap has you covered when the temperature plummets. A wool-blend exterior and soft-pile fleece lining provides generous insulation, and buttoned ear flaps fold down for additional warmth when it gets truly cold.

The Actual Deal with this Hat and its Earflapitrons
Ok, I bought this hat a little while back in Peat Herringbone (light green). This hat has been worn and tested. Here is the actual real deal with the Yukon Hat:1. The hat looks really nice/cool. The Peat Herringbone (light greenish) looks much better in person than in the picture. It is the best looking ear-flap cap I have seen.2. The size XL will fit a dome (domitron, domilingdingdong)size that is somewhat large. I have a larger domeicor and most of the time, XL hats -almost- fit me but are too tight. This hat in an XL fits me well. However, if your domeaux is bigger than slightly larger than a regular XL, the hat will be too tight.3. The all-important controversial ear-flaps: Many of these reviews say that the ear-flaps are worthless - this is not true.I have tested this hat at 18 degrees Fahrenheit. Here is the actual deal at 18 degrees: In a strong wind, the ear-flaps are a fail. In light or no wind, the ear-flaps provide -some- protection and warmth to the earicores. A traditional beanie would provide much better ear protection. But, the ear-flaps do keep the ears slightly warm at 18 degrees. They are much better than nothing down to about 18 degrees with no wind. HOWEVER, when I am walking, every fifty yards or so, I use my hands to press the ear-flaps down against my ears to warm them up for a few seconds. They I put my hands down and keep walking. In another 50 yards or so my ears are getting cold again, so I repeat the hand thing. At about 32 degrees Fahrenheit, the ear-flaps are sufficient without manually pressing them down against my ears every once and a while (well I might do it once or twice a mile).4. The hat itself is most effective and nice at about 25-38 degrees. It is a 'mildly cold weather' hat. However, the hat is much better than nothing down to probably about 10 degrees or so Fahrenheit. So, if you want to look really cool in a cool hat you have to be willing to live with the limitations (manually press the flaps down to warm up your ears every once and a while when it is in the 20's or colder outside).Am I happy with my purchase? Yes. Would I buy this hat again? Yes. Would I choose this hat on a strongly windy cold day? No way. Would I choose this hat on a really cold day (10 degrees Fahrenheit or less)? No. Would I wear this hat in the 20s, 30s, and low 40s? Yes. Would I wear this hat at 15-20 degrees? Only if I were in an urban environment with heated buildings nearby. You have now been enlightened on the essential truths of this hat. You have become one with this hat. Thank me profusely.

Terrific hat(s)
This is the third of these hats I've bought - in different colors. I love them -- just wish they'd keep making more, in more colors. They're increasingly hard to find. Pricy, but worth it.

Be vewy vewy quiet.
Great hat, but slight fail on QC. Nice, insulated hat with a brim to keep the sun out of your eyes. Minimal flap comes down to cover a little bit more on the back of the head, and the ears. Does not secure down over ears, so there will be some cold air getting in, but the ear flaps save the worst of any cold and allow for better sound to get in. The brim folds like the Radar caps, and the hat can be tucked away in a pocket or elsewhere. The QC issue is the pleat at the front of the cap is not centered with the fold in the brim (the pleat is the fail). It's a minor appearance issue, but I would hope that OR would be better.

Inconsistent sizing and nearly worthless ear flaps, but good looking.
I tried the Large Charcoal Men's Yukon Cap at a local sporting goods store that sold the hat for a higher price than Amazon. I immediately purchased the hat on Amazon after leaving the store. The hat that I received looked identical but fit looser than the Large hat that I tried on in the store. As far as I can tell, they were supposed to be exactly the same. The folks at Outdoor Research need to be more consistent about their sizing! Now I wish I just bought the one in the store and paid 10 bucks more instead of buying on Amazon.Aside from the sizing, the hat looks great. Unfortunately, because of the sizing the hat makes my head look bigger and does not fit as snugly as the one in the store. The ear flaps are so small and light that they don't provide much warmth for my ears, and since the sizing isn't right the ear flaps make even less contact with my ears than they did in the store when I tried them on. I find myself having to hold my hands against my ears to keep my ears warm with this hat on.I'd say this hat is a decent fashion accessory but not very good as a cold weather hat. Minus one star for shoddy sizing and minus another star for barely-useful ear flaps.

Perfect for what it is
If you want something for outdoor use in severe conditions, get the Outdoor Research Rando cap instead: waterproof, breathable, windproof, and the ear flaps cup your ears. This cap, however, is softer and softer on the outside, thicker, more comfy, and less geeky looking (at least if you get the herringbone pattern which I did). It's great for around town on a cold day without a lot of wind. The ear flaps don't really cup your ears like the Rando Cap's do. But if you flip down the ear flaps of the cap and flip up the hood of your shell parka, they work OK. Best is if you flip down the ear flaps and then put on something like the Seirus Innovation Unisex Neofleece Combo Scarf (available at amazon of course) which holds the ear flaps down and covers your face, protecting it from the wind and cold.

Soft and Warm
Changed my outdoor hat style from a great Stetson where my ears freeze to this Yukon hat. Once you get used to the fact that it fits like a head glove, your head will thank you by staying comfortable, and your ears will still work BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT FROZEN. Plaid and colorful fabric makes everyone know that you're still styling.

Just right
Perfect fit for a size 7. It’s easy to see the quality in the product and materials. I got this because it folds easily when I go inside and stows in my cargo pocket. The flaps don’t come way down ( which imo is a good thing) but cover the top and middle of the ear. Definitely worth the $$

Warm hat, retro style
It's a great hat, very warm, comfortable, and a cool retro look. I have a big head and the XL fit me just right. The ear flaps, as others have said, aren't all that functional, but they do add a bit of warmth despite the gaping that happens. The buttons aren't able to be done and undone with gloved hands. The foldable bill is a nice feature because I always cram my hats in my pocket. Good patterns to choose from too.

The sizes are in US measurements.
Great hat. Be careful though, the sizes are American and are different from the UK e.g. an XL (my UK size) is an L in American size. The cap is therefore slightly too big but I'm guessing it may shrink a little in the rain....
