Love it—but one design flaw. Make that two...
This tent is doing everything we wanted it to do--and then some. We already had Napier's "Cove" attachment which we liked a lot, and saw that it was good quality so we were confident ordering another of their products. We wanted a more all purpose add-on, and this was better than expected. We mostly wanted a place to stand up when camping in our Sienna. We can now climb out of the bed in the van and have a place to get dressed, etc. What we didn't expect? It's big: With the windows unzipped, it makes a great screen house if the bugs are bad. We brought our folding chairs inside and spent a dry, cozy evening while it thunderstormed. I put some mats down so the chair legs wouldn't scuff the floor. Plenty of overhead space so we felt comfortable setting up the stove and making coffee. No more setting up a tarp over the picnic table. The Dream. Downsides? It's big and heavy. The poles are thick fiberglass with big ferrules which snag on the tent sleeves making set up a bit more difficult. With only two poles, setup is simple, but they're really long and flexy and it takes a bit of doing to get that big dome to stand up (and we've been tent campers for years). It's gotten easier the more we do it. Once the poles are up, the rest of setup is really quick. I'm wondering if it would be worth it to upgrade to lighter, sleeker poles. A person could probably get it to fit back into the carrier bag, but it would take time and practice. We're car camping, not ultralight backpacking, so we roll it with the included straps and throw it into the car. We might use an old big duffel next time. The tent stakes are like railroad spikes. I've never seen heavier ones. Another upgrade in the cards? The main design flaw we noticed in that thunderstorm. The seam at the edge of the floor makes a natural gutter for rain to catch in and the seam isn't sealed, so we saw some pretty good leaking all around. (See photo) I got a tube of seam sealer and went around the edge, so we'll see if that helps. Since our bed is in the van, a little water on the edges wasn't a big deal. The thunderstorm blew rain under the fly near the car, but we zipped up that window and all was well. I had sprayed waterproofer around the bottom and on the fly and the connector sleeve, so I'm sure that helped. Just like in our "Cove," water gets in around the open hatch unnoticed and flows around the edge of the opening. It collects in the bottom of the connector sleeve, but (unlike our "Cove") they've installed drain grommets so most of it flows out onto the ground outside the tent. No problem. I wondered how fussy it would be to hook and unhook the thing to the van, but it's a breeze. Granted, our backup camera helps a lot, but you're not docking the space station here: there's a pretty big margin of error and the thing clips on really quickly with a good seal. Bugs didn't find their way in, but they weren't too bad at the time. It takes less than a minute, and it's great to unhook and be off for the day with no fuss. These criticisms (the poles, the stakes, the seams-- are really quibbles. We are very, very happy with this. The quality is really good overall, especially for the price. And the functionality is really great. We refer to it as 'the multi-purpose room.' Update: we found the two staking points on each side of the fly didn't allow for very good ventilation, so I sewed a loop of webbing to the center of the fly and attached a long loop of shock cord. It works a whole lot better, pulling the fly farther from the window allowing good airflow.

This tent exceeded our expectations!
Just took this tent out for its first camping trip, and it did not disappoint! It is a very well-made product, and if you have two people, is easy to set up and take down in minutes. We loved being able to sleep in the back of our SUV, and use the tent as a room to hang out in, play games in, and store our cooler and gear in. There is a ton of headroom as well as room to move around, and the lantern hook is great. We had sunny weather so I can't attest to how it would hold up in the rain, but it certainly held its own with the winds we had. Two words of advice -- 1) once you have the two sets of tent poles inserted into their respective sleeve in an X formation, have one of you stand inside the middle of the tent and hold it up while the other basically pops the tent up into shape and secures the pegs at the bottom corners. 2) no matter how tight you fit the SUV sleeve to your vehicle, there will still be a few gaps; we just used some painter's tape to secure the SUV sleeve even further and had no bugs as a result. All in all, a great purchase!

But it's a solid 3-Stars... Update 07/13/2022
I got this (obviously) because I wanted to do some car camping (also, obviously). All-in-all it's a very good design and I think it will work out well for me. But it does have some issues - including a misleading description - so I'll tell you about those too. First, by myself, it was fairly easy to set up. It's a learning experience, so make sure you set it up in your yard before you're in some dispersed campsite in BF Outer Badlands. Running the poles was straightforward, but I found that Blue Tape is your friend when attaching the main poles to the corner fittings. A second person might make the tape unnecessary, but it would still make it easier. Getting the main structure set - for the first time - took about 20 minutes, the whole set up took about an hour but I was being slow and deliberate. The inside is great and the HUGE windows provide ample ventilation. If anything the tent is too tall (which makes it tough to put the rainfly on solo) but there's plenty of room to stand everywhere in the tent. The connection with the car is good but, as others have noted, you will get some gaps (especially if you have a roof rack) that will allow bugs to get in. Now, the big downside. The rainfly and construction is described as offering the "ultimate weather protection". Not even close. While the fly's seams are sealed, the fabric itself relies on the weave to let more water run off than soak through. The night after my initial setup there was a light dew and the rainfly was as wet on the inside as it was on the outside. The only part of the tent that seems truly waterproof is the floor. I'm planning on waterproofing the fly, the whole front door panel of the tent, any part of the tent exposed under the fly, and seal all the seams. Pay particular attention to the ground seam as it's completely exposed. Quality control was spotty. There were some poorly stitched seams (picture) that shouldn't have made it past QC. Also, the slide locks for the fly guy ropes were incorrectly tied so I had to take them apart and retie them (picture) to keep them from slipping. Not a big deal but indicative that somebody is not paying attention. (Note: There are a couple of different ways to tie a slide lock, one of which only uses the end holes, so I don't know why they made a 3-hole lock.) The guy ropes themselves are invisible in the dark. They're flecked with white but are not reflective so another corner cut (and thing to fix...) Bottom line is a good design with some issues that need to be fixed to make it a usable tent. Update - I've upped it a star. I just came back from my first camping trip using the tent. It went very well. The tent is very easy to setup solo. The screen material was 100% (well, 99.99%) effective at keeping the bugs out (and it was *very* buggy) and the height of the tent makes for very comfortable living. My original comments stand as to construction, etc, but I had a problem with a weak piece of fabric which I reported to Napier. Their customer service department was amazing. They addressed the issue quickly and totally fixed things. That earned them the extra star.

Works with a Tesla Model X
I bought this car tent to go car camping with my 2019 Tesla Model X. I didn't see any reviews of this tent used with the MX, so I thought I'd share that it fits this car and here are some some photos. If it's good with the X, it should work well with all the S3XY models too. The tent comes with extra long straps to tie down the top part of the sleeve to the hinges of the hood, if you don't have a roof rack like the MX (see photos). I am able to open and close the frunk with the tent attached with no problem. The tent works with either the rear hatch open or closed, so you could use the tent just as a "vestibule" and close the hatch when you sleep at night and enjoy the Tesla Camp Mode. One inconvenience with the MX is that you have to unclip to long sleeve strap to open the falcon door. Not a biggie, just need to remember to do so. It took me by myself about 20-25 minutes the first time I set up the tent in between reading instructions. I expect it should take about 15 minutes once I've done it a few times. There are some small gaps between the tent sleeve and the side of the car around the rear end of the windows. I will probably get some magnets to seal the material better if bugs are a concern. Based on other reviews, I went ahead and bought seam sealant (I got Gear Aid), and applied it to the bottom seam between the tent sides and the ground sheet. Hope this review helps someone who's been thinking of having more fun with Camp Mode - happy car camping!

Napier, please address the faulty pole issue!
Spacious and easy to set up. We have used it both attached to our Honda Element and as a stand alone in sites that do not allow for vehicles. Both corner to corner poles split and broke on our 4th use, this also resulted in painful (fiberglass?) splinters to the hands. It sounds like other unfortunate buyers have experienced the same. We have only used ours in dry weather so do not know how it holds up in the rain... although numerous comments indicate it does not.

Poles are junk. Vendor issue. But tent is nice.
As I'm setting up the tent after just taking it out of the box one of the poles snapped in half. Returning immediately. Poor design. Editing… after ordering a second tent from a more reputable source, I realize the tent shipped to me was a returned item and not new. Will not purchase from this vendor again. I didn’t have any issues with set up of the second tent ordered. I was able to set it up, take down and pack it up by myself and it easily fit back into the carry case. I am 58 yo, 5’5” and did not need a stool. Have yet to take it out on a trip and am honestly very hesitant to do so with all of the new reviews I have seen with issues of leaking and poor quality. Will edit again once I’ve used it in the wild. 2nd edit… used the tent this weekend. Loved it, but things to be aware of: it was harder for me to put up with the wind. Used my DH to help. Stakes in the sand didn’t stay put. Will need screw in stakes. The door zipper constantly got stuck. It is not waterproof, will have to spend some time and money to do so yourself. What I loved… huge windows. I was able to watch the meteor shower from inside the tent when it got too damp. I used it with a Jeep Cherokee and have a moon roof, it was literally like sleeping under the stars. Had room to bring all of our supplies into the tent and room to fully stand getting dressed. With room to spare. Having your sleeping area in the suv is so helpful. I don’t think I’d use this with a chance of bad weather.

So easy to set up
Our first experience with this tent and we, including both of our grown sons, were impressed! Easy set up, good instructions, get more heavy duty stakes and use the metal ones supplied for ideal weather conditions. We drive a late model Toyota Sequoia (which she is lovingly called “the beast”) and we had our doubts the vehicle side of the tent would get up over the tailgate, but made it! Zippers just fine, air flow, not an issue, held tight to our SUV, but added some magnets along the sides just in case to prevent bugs and rain in. Now for the adaptations I’d make.. awnings covering each window and not just the door by the rain fly which I bet could be adapted to in production; heavy stakes, a bigger bag as once it’s out of the original bundled state, as we all know nothing fits the same twice… we had a large canvas bag and so not a problem. Oh, the long green poles which click together need a little lubricant and I’m going to use Vaseline.

Performed as I expected
I wanted to give this set up a try after a couple of really cold trips and discomfort of being so close to the cold ground. I also own the smaller model that only fits on the tail gate. So I was aware of Napier products and was comfortable with their quality. I was also wanting something with more of a living area in case weather was bad. I’m not great with measurements so I was surprised at how tall it was. For one person it provides a lot of living area outside of the sleeping bunk in the back of my suv. So check that box. Assembly was a little difficult for one person but if this 5’5” lady can muster it together I believe just about anyone should be able to. Did not get as much rain as expected but what I did get, the tent held up fine. I did get out for a drive around and the disconnect was quick and easy as was the reconnect when I returned. All in all I really loved this tent. The main drawback I found was this will not work at all sites. You need to be able to back in and find a level spot within where the campgrounds will let you park. At this particular site I was able to back up with ample flat ground but I was stuck between choosing dangerously close to fire pit or dangerously close to the bear box. I chose bear box and did have end up with an exciting night with a bear friend. I will be taking this set up with me on all trips in the future in case the site is suitable as it is the most comfortable set up o currently own. Happy trails : )
