New Balance Unisex-Child 990 V3 Sneaker

My son is 2 years old and has pretty wide feet. Regular shoes just weren't cutting it and it was so hard to find the correct size in a wide at the local shoe stores. I searched the internet and found this shoe. Not knowing how this brand of shoe would fit I read all of the reviews. I saw were people were displeased when the shoes arrived....they weren't wide enough and the Velcro would hardly catch and the shoe ran small. Based on those reviews I ordered the size 8 and went for the extra wide just to be safe.When the shoes arrived and when I opened the box they looked they really big. I was surprised and I held them up to another pair of his size 8 shoes and they were definitely bigger/longer. It also would have been fine just getting the wide instead of the extra wide. The width of the actual shoe isn't the problem, it's the Velcro straps that could be longer. I didn't have any problems with my son as he has flat feet and the Velcro attached just fine, but I can see what the complaints are about when it comes to the Velcro not reaching properly.I will know the next time how to order them and I definitely will be ordering more of them in the future! I'm happy that I found these shoes! Great shoe for the price! My son loves them, he can put them on and take them off all by himself. :)

The KJ990 is the only shoe I have been buying for several years now.I have 2 girls about a shoe size apart at all times. They burned out shoes like nothing till I found these.I used to go to target or payless, but those shoes were junk and fell apart all the time.Instead of shopping for a different model as often as kids outgrow the shoes, I settled on this ONE model for as long as it comes in their size.Durable, more than you'd imagine. My autistic daughter literally murders her shoes. These still outlast her brutality. My older daughter is in track and other youth sports, and these have held up to her events and daily life.All in all, I was looking for a shoe that could outlive their growth cycles. And so far this has been a one stop shop for us!I just tell um what color options are available in their size, and they get to choose. No more this style or that style, just this one daily use shoe.Do yourself a favor and stop wasting your money on those cheaper shoes at payless. These shoes cost me less than I spent in junk bin shoes, and I buy one pair a year usually. And we still have enough life in them to gift them to the neighbor who sometimes needs a bit of time between her daughters growth and her pocket book.These shoes are amazing, just pick out a color :P

I selected this shoe after a professional shoe store owner fit my 2 1/2 year-old son. Lots of shoes are cute, but I wanted him to have better support now that he's active, runs quite a bit, visits theme parks largely without a stroller, etc... My son has a chubb foot (i.e., wide) and has low arches. This shoe fit him like a dream and gives much better cushioning than the "cutsie" shoes from Target and Converse. I also appreciate that this New Balance shoe comes in half sizes, like most better-made shoes do, in order to get the best fit. Amazon has the best price for this shoe, I save about 15-20% buying here than in a store. I got the first pair of NB shoes at the store in gratitude for the store owner's professional advice, but subsequent pairs have been through Amazon.As a side note, the shoe store owner recommended that while a child is seated with a shoe on, shove their toes to the farthest forward position in the shoe (without forcing them to curl), then insert your own index finger in the gap behind the child's heel. You should be able to insert your finger by neither jamming it in nor seeing a lot of wiggle room. The finger should feel just right. That's a good fit. When I was a kid we used to do a test by pressing on the toe end of the shoe while the child was standing up, but some shoes are so sturdy that you can't feel much using the toe-press test.

I ordered these because I wanted a basic Navy/white sneaker that would be neutral and versatile with my son's casual/play clothes. I had a difficult time finding just that and these do fit the bill. My son has never needed 'wide' shoes before though his feet might lean toward the wide side a little bit. After reading the reviews, I decided to go for the XX wide in these. The reviews were right. These are none too wide in the 'XX wide'. They are comparable to many Medium width shoes we've had. The reviews about the Velcro strap are also correct. The strap has to be pulled more than normal to cover the connecting Velcro. It's as if they might have made the hull of the shoe wider but kept the strap length the same as their more narrow version. Anyway, we've made this sneaker work for us and the strap issue doesn't seem as awkward now that we've worn them in a bit; perhaps it has stretched a bit. The quality is fair; not outstanding for the price. We've had better. We do get use out of these shoes and are happy, at least, to have found this neutral, versatile color.

I made my decision to buy these KJ990's when I read another review...I deal w/ Plantar Fascititis on one foot, and the other painful arthritis...two whammy's. Dr. suggested I buy a good pr. of running shoes, well I did just that, but I wanted a good deal, therefore I bought the Little Kid/Big Kid age group. I was a bit nervous I had never bought like that before, and sometimes trying to save $, I make stupid decisions. Well guess what?? Not this time, I am so pleased, shoes are very, very comfortable. I bought a Size 6 and I normally wear in a Ladies - a Size 7 - 71/2. Another reason I was nervous I kinda guessed. But thank you Jesus, all is well and I look forward to going home and putting my shoes on, be/c I literally had become somewhat sedentary due to pain and discomfort in my feet and now, I seriously have a lot of my quality of life back and it seems more w/ each passing day.Long story short, I love my shoes, great decision...if you can relate to my story, please don't hesitate, find a style you like - perhaps this one, you won't regret it.

I originally bought these just for running but they are literally the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned and fit perfectly (which is usually difficult for me as I'm a 5.5 and a lot of places don't carry it) so I think I'm going to be wearing them regularly now. They look very good as well, not too bulky and in your face like a lot of sports shoes. Would definitely recommend, love them.
