High on Fannie's contributions but short on her life's obstacles
I liked the book Fannie in the Kitchen for the children in the intended age group; however, it could have taught a little more valuable life lesson on overcoming the obstacles of her physical problems, especially during that time in history, where they prevented her from going off to college and pretty much took her out of the usual marriage market. She made the best of her situation. She made significant contributions to the science of cooking and eating healthy food. The 7 through 9 year olds I read this to enjoyed it though. The illustrations were terrific!

Cute Book
Cute book about a girl who finds the joy of cooking through Fannie farmer herself. My 6 hear old loves to cook (and so do I). Just another avenue to help nurture that love. She enjoyed the book very much and began coming up with recipes the next day.

True, lovely illustrations!
A true story and such fun, too. Fannie Farmer was an amazing woman and what a wonderful way for a little one to learn about cooking and cooperation.

Three Stars
I was little disappointed, I thought it would have a better story and recipes.

Fannie in the Kitchen
My granddaughter and I enjoyed reading this book together. At the end of the story is a recipe for pancakes, made the "old-fashioned" way. We had fun making, and eating, them.

Great companion read for kitchen measurement lessons
Meet Fannie Merritt Farmer, the author of the Boston Cooking School Cookbook, through the eyes of the daughter of one of her employers. Fannie's cookbook was the first to use exact instructions and measurements. Marcia, the little girl, is at first wary about the new cook. But Fannie grows on her, and soon Marcia is eagerly learning Fannie's cooking secrets.I really liked the art style which really helped set the time period for this picture book biography. It was a fun food history picture book. But warning: Do not read this on an empty stomach unless you're looking for inspiration. This would be a great read before studying how to write instructions for others to follow or before a math/science lesson on kitchen measurements.

Fun and informative
This was an insightful book into the development of the first cookbook (funny, I'd never really thought about them not existing). I liked the story of how the young girl grew from her dislike of the new chef, Fannie (since Fannie would take over her duties of helping the mom) to realizing that she could learn something from Fannie, and maybe Fannie wasn't so bad after all.The illustrations were fun and whimsical (though the girl herself I found a little too old looking) and the text was fun, too. I especially liked "Fannie's tips" on cooking throughout.

A great introduction to cooking for kids
Really interesting historical account of recipes. My four year old daughter really enjoys this book. We have a new baby in the house, so this really resonates with her. I love that the artwork is a different style, there are really cool photos of old stoves, lamps, washing boards, etc, and the book has a unique style. This book has led to a lot of interesting discussions in our house.
