P-U, the pills stink! But that's a good thing, because Valerian root is supposed to stink, it's an indicator of potency. I would say that this extract does what it is supposed to do... directions on the back instruct you to take it 30 min before bed -- that's not enough time, take them much earlier, because it takes 90+ min before the drowsiness really starts to kick in. I have noticed a residual hangover the next day -- a groggy, heavy feeling -- so make sure you have plenty of time to sleep it off, otherwise you'll be dragging.

Don't buy this for its smell or flavor (strong, but not unpleasant). Buy it for its effect. These will help you sleep more than any other brand I've tried. And that's what you buy them for.

I suffer some serious pain due to an auto accident that left me with some permanent injuries. I have a spinal stimulator implanted which helps alot. But I deal with too much pain to the point I have difficulty sleeping throughout the night. I picked these up on a recommendation, and I am so glad I did. For those that have pain and cannot sleep, this is what I do. I take 5mg of melatonin, along with an Advil PM and 1 of these Valerian Tablets. If my pain is intense, I'll take 2 Advil PMs with this. I know a few people will even add 1/2 dose of Z-Quill to this cocktail but I have never had to. I sleep so much better throughout the night. On better nights that I don't need to take the Advil, this with Melatonin or even this alone will help me fall asleep so much easier. If there is any knock on the Valerian Tablets, it's the smell. They smell bad. But that's what Valerian Root smells like. So don't think you got a bad bottle of this. The smell is normal.

Worked great for a little over a week but then not at all. It relaxed my legs and I was sleeping great but quit working. I tried doubling up and still nothing. I really did want it to work. I wouldn't skip at least trying it as it does work for some.

Planetary Herbals Valerian Extract Full Spectrum 650mg, Botanical Support For Restful Sleep With 450 mg extract containing 0.8% valerianic acids (3.4mg) plus an additional 200 mg of whole ground root this is the most potent of the non-liquid extracts with and a solid slightly capsule shaped pill instead of capsules I find this work and go down the best and I've tried them all. You do have to keep them dry since there is no capsule covering them. In damp climes they might degrade within a week or so. I don't know though as I have no idea how sensitive Valerian extract is to moisture. I've found extracts don't contribute to diarrhea like Valerian root can so these are a real find for me having a sensitive gastrointestinal system.

This is the valerian extract I always buy. Unlike the unpleasant odor of valerian root capsules, this is relatively scentless. And it is a very effective sleep aid. I've used several brands and this one is by far the best.

I chase my wife around the house with the lid open, so funny! The smell is crazy but very effective for me. The price per pill is very high and I will try another product just because of that.

I have been taking Valerian for about four months. I had previously used Valerian from another company but found that I had to take three pills that literally stunk. It was hard getting used to ingesting something that smells like Valerian. I purchased this product recently due to previous good experiences with this brand, a good cost, and less pills to take. To my surprise, this product smells much better. It has a smell, but it is nothing like the "wet dog" smell of the product I used before. I believe I made a good purchase here.
