Monk: The Complete Series

This is a review of the *product* and not the series! "Monk" is as fresh and funny as when it first came out. Brilliantly written and acted, the plot holes were forgivable. HOWEVER, what holds this back from a 5-star review is that this is a review of the *product* and not the series. Many of the brand new disks skipped and stuttered or froze. Also, there is no episode index! Come on, not one DVD cover or insert includes even a list of what episodes it contains, never mind a synopsis of each episode so you can find your faves. You have to load each DVD and look at the episode index there. What an oversight! A major blunder that Monk would never have allowed.

I love Monk so much! Unfortunately, some of the discs in this package aren't readable. I've tried on multiple players (DVD, Blu Ray & Xbox one). Super disappointed in quality and reliability in this product. I've had to skip over so many episodes (Season Six doesn't work at all 😢) because the disc is poor quality. Again, I adore this series but not this product.

As a fan of Monk, I was thrilled to see this collection. DVDs are in good working order, well-packed and damage-free.This item would benefit from episode lists/ table of contents for each disc/season. I ended up printing my own for reference.

I had never seen this series when it first came out. I saw a couple of reruns and loved it so I ordered the series. It is original and hilarious. Me. Monk is funny, brilliant and sad at different times. The murder mysteries are often as quirky as the main character. The cast is terrific. Tony Shaloud is great as Monk. Bitty Schram as Sharona is a lovable, loyal, sexy, and smart friend and assistant to Monk. I was sad to see her leave the series. The character was unique. She was replaced by Traylor Howard as Natalie, a widowed mom of a young pre teen girl. She is a loveable loyal assistant to Monk and like Sharona patiently keeps the distracted Monk on point. Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) does a great job as a homicide detective and friend to Monk who learns to understand Monks genius and idiosyncrasy. The scene with Captain Shottlemeyer "interviewing" the monkey "suspect" is one of the most hilarious comedy scenes I have seen on TV. Monk's OCD symptoms bring to mind a lot of little crazy habits almost everyone has that is probably part of the shows appeal. My wife and I both feel this is the best written, most original series we have seen. It has drama, comedy, love, friendship, mystery. The subtle humor in much of the show is just a bonus. Some of the murders are rather graphic and for this reason would say many if the episodes are not for kids.

I read some of the reviews before I ordered this series, and the biggest complaint is that there is no listings of the episodes. For those folks who want that information, it's available on IMDb, and the app can be downloaded to your phone. It has every episode for every season in order. In addition, it has a plot summary for each episode, as well as cast, guest stars, writers/directors, critic reviews, trivia, and so on. So, don't let that stop you from buying this great series. It's well packaged in nice plastic cases, in a nice boxed set. The dvd's are good quality, and have the "play all" feature, which I love! You really can't beat the value of this set, especially if your a Monk fan! If you've never seen Monk, you're in for a treat, and I would suggest you don't start watching until you can bindge watch, because you'll be hooked! I'm very happy with this purchase, and will enjoy watching many times!

One of the greatest detectives in t.v. history. The whole family loves the show, and it's sweeter with out commercials. We haven't watched every season yet, but, so far the quality is good. It seems like the set was shipped & delivered in no time, which was great because I gave it as a Christmas gift to my dad. Highly recommended.

There is really not much to be said about this show that hasn't already been said. I loved watching it on USA Network when it first aired, and I still love watching it now.This is the Complete show with each of the 8 seasons on standard DVD format. This box set is a collection of the individual Season DVD sets, just repackaged together. There is no need if you own the older fat sets to buy this set apart from the slimier form factor. All the extras and bonus content is the same.I looked to double check and each disk included looks to be identical to the original DVD release. That said, it's nice to have them all in one place. (although the cardboard case could be a little stronger, as it sags a little in the center.)

The Monk tv series is brilliant, funny and charming, not to mention the amazing acting skills of all the cast. BUT this Dvd box set is of the most APPALLINGLY POOR QUALITY, I cannot recommend it in any way. Each dvd contains 3 or 4 episodes and on this set every dvd had pixellation, jumps, freezes and distortion. It was mostly, or worse on episodes 2 & 3 on each dvd. Some were still watchable, but several were completely unwatchable or unplayable and the rest were bad enough to completely lose the thread of the story or ruin our enjoyment of the episode. Some dvds don't give the option to select episode,just play all as soon as they start. Some show subtitles automatically so you have to turn them off each time. We got to series 4 of 8 and decided we had to complain, even though it was out of the return window (30 days after purchase). The 2nd set was much better. BUT, although MUCH LESS than the first, it STILL PIXELLATED, DISTORTED & FROZE/JUMPED on several to many of the dvds. The OTHER ISSUE is the very poor way the dvds are arranged in the box. Several are piled on top of each other in groups, so that you have remove several dvds each time to get or replace the right dvd. The difficulty removing them risks bending them which will not help their longevity. ALL-IN-ALL this seems to be a VERY CHEAPLY PRODUCED, EXTREMELY POOR QUALITY BOX SET which WILL NOT PLAY WITHOUT JUMPS, STOPS & PIXELLATIONS. DO NOT BUY.Update: After two or three watchings, further dvds are starting to break down, pixellate/freeze/distort, so soon the whole set will be mostly unwatchable again. PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS SET. Have now bought an alternative set of (used) individually boxed series 1-8. Fingers crossed!

Thoroughly enjoying watching Monk again. Still as good as it was back in the day.Only disappointment, is some of the episodes have skipped, stuck, pixelated or gone out of sync. But not to the degree that they can't be watched.
