Great sturdy, but light-weight, sealing palette for watercolor or gouache.
This is one of the cooler art boxes. I do not use it for watercolors--I use it for gouache. Either way, I like how it seals closed. There is a gasket around the edge and it pretty much keeps liquid from leaking out--so it functions well. There are plenty of wells for various colors of paint, and an extra mixing tray--I never use it, but it is there if I ever run out of space. It is one of the sturdiest palettes you can get and is extremely well made. I like the size. it is light weight, so easy to carry. By the way, this is my second one of these, so I believe, for the price, it is a good investment for what you get.

Love these pallets!
I love these pallets. They're just the right size to travel with or keep at home. This is the second I've ordered, having the fuscia one already. Was pleasantly surprised to get a sample of the Mission Gold watercolor in Burnt Sienna, 7ml tube. The wells are generous in size, holding about 5ml of paint. They're a kind of rounded square space that's slanted down giving you a little extra "work space" to dab out the color. The rounded shape with the open end is a lot easier on your brushes as well. There are three areas for mixing; where the paints are, the clear plastic removable tray and the underside of the lid. I used that space under the lid for storing the swatch of my current colors. The plastic is very smooth and I'd advise scuffing up the mixing areas so the paint doesn't bead up. They are leak proof, now that means that the colors won't leak outside the pallet and into your bag. What this also mean is that the colors in their little wells, if still wet, can and will run around inside the pallet. So I'd suggest that you put your paints in with enough time for them to "dry" prior to traveling. I use the Mission Gold colors and those don't really dry out. Even after a year and a half in this pallet the majority of them are moist/gel-like to the touch, but they're dry enough that they don't run and are easily re-wet. I've not had any problems with mildew/mold so it may be the quality of the paints used for ppl who have experienced that. These are nice, fairly inexpensive pallets. And seems a cheaper option to buying a pallet with removable pans. Getting ready to buy a third one for a class in taking. I'd recommend any of these in this line.

Great Plastic Palette for Watercolors
I have now purchased three of these over the past year and a half or so. The first one I got had student-grade paints and I gave it to a friend when I upgraded to artist-grade paints. The second one I have been using for well over a year. The third one I bought most recently was to make a second working palette with different colors from my other one, but I'll still be using them both regularly. When researching for my third palette, I desperately wanted a travel palette with removable pans so that making a whole new palette wasn't necessary and I could just switch out the pans whenever I switched colors. However, the very cheapest I could do this was around $70. Price is a factor for be so I settled back on the palette that has treated me incredibly well. To answer some reviews about it not being air-tight because paints eventually dry out, watercolors can mold anyway if they are left wet for more than a week, so everything I have read and learned from other watercolorists recommend that if you're not going to paint right from the tube, let your watercolors dry before close the palette anyway. If your paints are too hard to rewet, try a different brand such as Daniel Smith, Mission Gold, or M. Graham. There are zero problems rewetting most of these paints. I have found - for me - that mine are at least water-tight and I can travel with these palettes to in from classes or meetups with ease without my paints spilling or leaking Pros: - Slanted wells are fantastic and easy on your brushes. - Large mixing areas, including a removable clear tray. The area underneath can be used for additional mixing OR to keep a palette swatch of all your paints. - Seals with a rubber seal so that travel is easy and leakproof. - Sturdy construction feels comfortably weighted/substantial without being heavy. - The price is literally unbeatable for what you get. All other plastic palettes that I've used feel too lightweight and/or have harsh corners that are hard on brushes. Cons: - Palette does discolor with staining pigments, but this is true of ALL plastic palettes. If you want a non-staining palette, invest in a porcelain palette. - No option for removable pans, but the slanted wells make up for this. - No finger loop if you like to work that way when outside. I think that's it - well worth the price when compared to other plastic palettes.

Great pallete, but not completely leakproof
Despite this pallete not being perfectly leak proof I really like it. It feels sturdy, like it's a more expensive pallete. I like the removable clear tray and how easy the whole pallete is to clean. I tested right out of the package to see if it was leak proof by putting some water inside and tilting it. Initially it leaked a lot of water from the top corners and along the hinge. I realized the rubber inside wasn't in all the way so I pushed that in and tried again, resulting in less leaking. Removing the clear tray made it not leak at all as long as I made sure to press the rubber back in, which seems to get pushed up by the hinge every time you open it. So its somewhat leak proof, but it is finicky, you have to make sure the rubber is pushed back in perfectly every time or it will leak. Pressing the top breaks the seal, so don't put too much pressure on it if you're carrying it in a bag. I may try supergluing the rubber so it stays in place. Despite that I still really like it and plan to use it regularly but without the clean tray inside, that I'll just use like a normal pallete. Its still really good quality for the price.

Perfect eells and mixing spaces for a gouache palette. A quick spritz of water every day before I start painting and the gouache is ready. This palette seals in the goodness. Not airtight, but enough to keep the gouache from cracking up. The slanted wells hold onto the paint.

I like how paint doesn't leak out and how easy it is to clean. I have several other palettes exactly like this one and bought one for my Mom. I was frustrated with my first purchase that didn't arrive. I'm still waiting for my refund. There was a delivery problem. It got lost in the Langley warehouse. I do understand these things take time. June 11, 2023
