Time Flies Like an Arrow in fifty years -- but Kuhn knew how to Lead The Target: As insightful Now as Then
This classic is worth revisiting nearly half a century after it first introduced the now-overused phrase and concept of the "Paradigm Shift."In much the same way as Peter Diamandis sees our species as retracing the history of Life on Earth a million times faster --an intellectual, social and cultural parallel of "ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny"-- evolving us by UNnatural selection towards cybernetic “meta-intelligence,” Kuhn maps the progress of Science (and its handmaiden technologies) as one of Evolution occurring so rapidly it becomes Revolution. He shines a bright light on the sad fact that even our best brains are still immutably the ones that evolved on the African savanna in a species of generally hairless chimpanzee, not for the speed of progress of modern science and society. He concludes that, (sadly, like the path from racism, misogyny, xenophobia and general distrust of change,) the primary way that the cookie crumbles and the Paradigm shifts is most often for the believers in The Old to simply Die and Get Out of the Way of the New.Whether it's twenty-somethings in the lab doing radiocarbon dating that overthrows decades of tracing potshard pre-history by the revered Chair of the Anthro Dept., or the cladistic genome sequencing that rewrites the family Tree of Life, undoing the life's work of venerated zoologists, he dissects the disruptive process of scientific transformation. Equally sadly, it isn't just meteorologically illiterate Climate Deniers brandishing snowballs in the Senate that haven't a clue as to How the World Works -- it's each of us that daily, despite multiple advanced degrees decades ago, struggles to keep up with the pace of progress in a world where fully 90% of the scientists and engineers Who Have Ever Lived are Alive Today. My return visit to Kuhn's little opus was as instructive in the unforeseen world of the 21st Century as it was when new -- in the "slow" days grad school.

Important topic, as relevant today as when written
As important a book as I've ever read. Yes, he coined the phrase PARADIGM shift and he uses this book to explain it.Admittedly, the scientific theme of the writing was momentarily challenging for me. However that just made the book more valuable to me.

A must read for the serious student of any science!
Mr Kuhn well establishes what brings about revolutions in thought, how they are fought against, who fights against them and how they ultimately succeed if proven true. The mechanisms of this change works on major topics such as Newtons Laws as well on the minute detail of any detail such as the orientation of the eye pupil in hunters versus prey which was recently in the news. It matters not the size of the revolution, it will work the same way.Any student working on a Masters or PhD in any science ought to read this book for background.

Must-Read / Relatively Quick Read - Philosophy of Science!
This is a landmark work in science (or Philosophy of Science). Every global warming alarmist should read this book, and then stare at himself / herself in the mirror. By "alarmist" I mean so-called / self-described "Climate Scientists" who believe there will be catastrophic anthropogenic climate change. Also should be read by those who are interested in the Philosophy of Science.

Changed My Life
This book changed my life. It convinced me that I did not want to be a psychologist which saved my entire career. I learned that all major theories in science and social theories are like kids chasing a soccer ball. Once the theory is built out it starts developing anomalies and is then abandoned. This book might cause you to develop your own theory.

A thoughtful informative essay on the nature of scientific progress
This classic essay on the process of theory formulation is an important asset for anyone engaged in research. I first read it almost 50 years ago, but it is just as relevant today.
