Works great
It’s a lot sturdier than I thought it would be. I’ve hung everything from sock to blankets on it with no slack. Love how small and functional it is

Good enough, but in no way great.
I hang almost all my clothes, so having a long clothesline was important to me, but there's nowhere in my house where that amount of rope won't be an inconvenience, so I attached this to one wall of my basement and either run it across both the storage room and the laundry room, or loop it back and forth between shelves in the storage room. I use an S hook (old shower curtain hook) to attach it to whatever I can, or loop it around a pole and attach it to itself. There are two major flaws to this design.1) The cleat you wrap the line around to keep it from pulling out is too small. If I loop it once then it's loose enough to pull more line out, making my clothes sag to the floor. If I loop it around twice the second loop usually falls off because the cleat is too small to properly hold it. The line is thick enough that it can't get near the base of the cleat, the gap between them is too small for it to fir properly. It's really cheap molded plastic so chances are it'll probably break off soon enough and I can attach a higher quality one.2) The line itself almost feels stretchy. I'll pull it tight and hold it in place, and once I throw clothes over the line it'll sag, even without any extra slack. I can't verify whether it's actually stretching on not, but no matter how tight I try to make it there always is extra give.Overall, it's a good enough product for now. It's definitely worth the price since nothing on mine has snapped quite yet (it's been about 3 months) but no part of it (except the plate that screws onto the wall) feels sturdy, so I'm wondering how much longer it'll last. If something breaks on the inside I have no idea whether it can be considered fixable with a different line.

Made NOT to last
We purchased the product June 12 of 2012. I was very excited to receive my retractable clothesline. My husband installed it for me and I couldn't wait to try it out. The very first time I used it I hung up a load of towels. I was just thrilled with the ease of hooking up the line and proud of my resolve to use less electricity. I hung my load, went into the house and returned to find all my towels on the deck floor. The knot on the hook did not hold. So, no big deal, we retied the knot bigger and I figured maybe a load of towels was too heavy, even though I was not even using the full 40 feet. I only used about just under 30 feet.Moving forward I made sure to only hang a partial load if drying heavy clothes like towels or jeans to take some of the load off the line. In order to keep the line taught there is a little plastic hook where you wrap the line around to stop it from expanding any further once you reach the length you need. Within a month one side of the little plastic hook broke off. We limped along and made do by wrapping it around the other part of the plastic hook until a few days ago, September 3, 2012, the other side of the little hook broke off as well.I love the way it worked and thought it was a great design, however, it is clearly not up to handling what it is marketed for. What if I had been using the full 40 feet? I doubt it would have lasted a week. The product did not quite make it 3 months and that was with me being careful to not over do it and using less than the capacity it boasts. I am posting this because I feel this product was not designed to last and I think that is not only a poor way of doing business but also bad for our environment.I do not feel this is a well made product.

This Thing Is Junk
I’m only keeping it because I want to snow all my friends what a cheap piece of low cost crap looks like hanging from my porch wall. It’s probably the overall worst thing to come off of an assembly line since the fall of the Soviet Union. If it lasts a year then I’ll be grateful. Really. This thing is awful. Honey Can’t Do.
