Excellent train
My now 8 year old grandson had the Duplo train set when he was 2 and it was very frustrating. The train didn’t move on its own and when pushed the tracks would come apart. Now that my second grandson is 2 I looked for another train set. The train itself is wonderful. It is sturdy and stays on the tracks. It also works on most other surfaces. The tracks connected to the Duplo tracks so we have a wonderfully large layout. I wish the train had a two volume button as it is a little loud but that is a minor irritation. The building blocks connect to Duplo blocks but are a little loose, again a minor problem. I can highly recommend this product

Great Toy Train Set
This was purchased for my 3-year-old grandson for Christmas. The pieces are sturdy and hold up well. It has delighted him for hours. I would recommend this to anyone.

Well-made and a great value
This set includes a nice selection of Duplo-compatible blocks and figures, and suggestions for several layouts with the supplied tracks. The two-car train runs for hours on 3 AA cells and is easy to start and stop via a red button on top of the engine (without knocking it off the track!) Would buy it again in a heartbeat.

Annoying, loud sounds with no way to turn off
The media could not be loaded. As you might have guessed from the title, the train has a whistle it does about every 30 seconds that is annoying and unrealistic. Watch the video with your sound up. There's no volume control or way to turn the sound off. Our 2.5 year olds don't like to play with it because of the noises. Cutting the wires is your only recourse, unless of course you like what you hear in the video. Oddly enough, the sounds are identical to two other train sets we returned earlier in the year, so we're very familiar. The flashing red light on the front is a little confusing and a minor annoyance. Probably extends battery life, but why not clear? That's the only bad.The good:Smokestack bobs up and down like a cartoon train and toddlers like that.Unlike official brand block trains, it's FWD and has far more power. The tracks also have tread on both sides which gives more traction, but doesn't allow the outer drive wheel to spin faster. It doesn't seem to matter on this train, but official brick brand RWD trains struggle on corners of these tracks. Conversely, this engine struggles on the corners of official brand tracks, which are smooth on one side because it can't get the outshine traction it needs. It also can't go across the switchers or ramps of official brand tracks. Unfortunately it's not really compatible with other tracks or trains. It comes with a push train-shaped car that has somewhat skinnier, more realistic wheels with a raised section that decreases drag and wide full axles that swivel slightly and move in and out to facilitate turning, which is good. The official block brand style cars have more cargo space and swiveling couplers for cornering and very thin wheels, but locked axles. The car in this set pulls every bit as well as the official one, perhaps even better! The building block pieces match up most of the time and work with the official bricks, but not with official brick building platforms. The bricks are almost as heavy, durable and feel the similar enough for kids. This set also comes with some very nice building pieces and unique bricks that are a lot of fun.It also comes with a cross piece to make a figure eight, but no straight pieces. For half the price of the official brick brand and if you can live with the whistle and some compatibility issues, you're getting a more powerful engine with a nice car and a lot of good pieces. Oh, and the tracks have realistic-looking gravel between the ties and fit together more snugly.

Decent substitute if you can't afford Lego
Overall, I recommend it. The pieces feel cheaper than regular Duplo but they do connect with Duplo and my kid loves it so I love it.Mine was missing the windows for the station pieces, that was disappointing, but other than that, everything else was there. The track pieces stay together well. The train seems weak and won't pull any extra "cars" than what it comes with. I've tried multiple types of batteries with the same results. I don't have the Lego train to compare so it could just be the nature of the train battery power's limits.Still a fun set!

Engine failed very quickly
Engine stopped working 1 week after purchase. I have a two year old grand daughter who is very gentle with her toys. No reason this should happen. I even purchased extra tracks!

Best Bang for your Buck - Closest thing to Lego Duplo for far less money!
I cannot tell a difference in quality between this train set and lego duplo’s train set that I bought last year, and they’re very compatible with 1 another (can mix and match them perfectly).Price-wise, it has more than double the pieces than Lego’s set for less.I also love that they still have the figure 8 feature that Lego retired years ago - Nostalgic!
