Thanks for your question. Yes you can store water in your car even though it gets warm, as I assume this is not for drinking and rather for your radiator or car issues? I am not sure what you mean by leach, but the bags can handle heat up to 140 degree with no issue. If you are using it for long term water storage for drinking, you should never have them in the heat. Hope that helps!

Q: How long will these last if filled with water and stored for an emergency

Hello and thanks for your question. This is what FEMA recommends for storing water. I personally keep mine for 3 months and then change, but they should always be kept in cool dark location. Buy commercially bottled water and store it in the sealed original container in cool, dark place. If you must prepare your own containers of water, purchase food grade water storage containers. Before filling with chlorinated water, thoroughly clean the containers with dishwashing soap and sanitize the bottles by cleaning with a solution of 1 teaspoon of non-scented liquid household chlorine bleach to a quart of water. Water that has not been commercially bottled should be replaced every six months.
