Make your bourbon better!!
Great seller and item! I have used these for years and work great in a bottle of bourbon to slightly bottle age a younger whiskey.

I was hesitant, but tried it on bottle of cheap liquor and surprisingly it made it better

Will be hit or miss with most bourbon appreciators
Saw this scrolling through some other bourbon-related searches, and thought I'd pull the trigger based on some of the reviews/comments. I was thinking for 10 bucks, might as well take a shot at potentially enhancing the experience of a cheaper bottle of bourbon as it 'cures' [I don't feel comfortable with the word 'ages'] for several weeks. I started with handle of a common cheaper bottled in bond higher proof (100) bourbon, took the cap off, and dropped the wood spiral in as per the instructions, and walked away for 2-3 weeks. Simple enough. After the incubation period was over (and I was getting thirsty), I tried the first taste as I usually prefer my bourbon: in a double rocks glass with a clear ice sphere. The result was definitely 'different' -- I feel like it 'smoothed' some of the 'edge' off the taste. Which may compare to the impact of more aging. But personally, I prefer a little 'bite' to my higher octane bourbons (I feel like it lets me know 'oh yeah, I'm not your typical 80 proof sip'). So regarding the intended purpose, it definitely altered the flavor and smoothness of the higher proof bottle -- which some folks might enjoy. So, I think in the end it will come down to personal preference in the final results ... and I don't think it necessarily makes a $30 bottle taste like $150 bottle. But at $10, it's worth a shot for those interested.

It works.
I used these to turn an $7 bottle of Four Freedoms vodka into a passable bottle of whiskey.

It does do as advertised.
I'm sure most are familiar with how barrel aging works, and these spirals, left on their own will give you the desired result as far as colour and smokiness in the taste is concerned. I've found these will do better if you double them up, and add 2 to a bottle, agitate it at least once daily and change the temperature.I suggest freezing the bottle for 8-10 hours, then bring it to at least room temp a few times during the aging process. Its the process of the wood swelling, then contracting with the changing temps that draws the liquid in and out of the wood.Again, if you want to buy these and just drop them in a bottle and let them sit, they will provide the result you want, and its a good product. I age mine in green bottles, or I would show a side by side photo comparison, but done the way I've described will give you a much better result. Enjoy.

fantastic for a speedy age
I made some home made rum a while back and thought it would be fun to age it. followed the simple instructions on the back and it made all the difference to the flavor. nice oaky notes with a sweet scent. for those of us without massive warehouses to age things in, this is a perfect middle ground that respects tradition and gives a great end result without sacrificing quality.

Does as expected.
These do exactly what I purchased them for...they add a hint of oak to my Bourbon. I only add these for 1 week. Some do 1 month. Test sample as you go.
