Do yourself a favor these books
I watched the Longmire series and it was good. The books are much better. I decided to read the series of books and it was the best thing I've ever done. I started with the first Cold Dish and it was the best book I've ever read. My opinion. I'm 70 and have read thousands of books. Craig Johnson is so entertaining, witty, intriguing and fun. The first nine the library had but this one I HAD to buy and it was just as great as the rest.

For Longmire fans ANY OTHER NAME is a must read!
I had this on preorder since Nov. 2013 despite my shock at the last 2 pages of A Serpent's Tooth. I thankfully felt like this was an improvement over Serpents Tooth. The story in A Serpents Tooth was a little to unbelievable for me in certain parts and I really HATED the last 2 pages and what happened to Vic and Walt (trying to not do any spoilers) plus the carnage to most of Walt's Undersheriff's. The thing I liked best about A Serpents Tooth was the interaction between Walt, Vic, and Henry and there is more of that in this book.I LOVED the entrance Vic makes here in ANY OTHER NAME and what she says to Walt that I can't repeat here plus her interaction with everyone throughout this book! Vic is in this book much more than many of the previous books which is a major plus. She has some great comebacks here. Vic the terror still rules! I was disappointed in the outcome for Vic from her injuries in A Serpent's Tooth however. Craig feels the need to dump on his main characters over and over and I keep hoping he will allow them some happiness at some point. I was almost afraid to read this installment for fear of what he would do to Walt, Vic, or Henry.I liked the "mystery" that Walt had to solve in this book and that all my favorite supporting characters were there throughout, Lucien, Vic, Henry, and Dog plus Virgil White Buffalo some new players from the Campbell County Sheriff's department, local police departments and the town of Arrosa. I did however figure out who the villains were pretty quickly. There were some great lines in book like Lucien saying this about Walt "You're sure you want that? Because he's like a gun; once you point him and pull the trigger, it's too late to change your mind".I so enjoy Walt that I couldn't put it down and read it in 2 sittings.I have to say I too would be so livid if I were Cady about Walt's sense of time, duty, and priorities.I also want to know who was holding down the Fort in Absaroka County besides Ruby while Walt, Lucien, Vic, and Henry were solving a Campbell County crime since most of his other Undersheriff's were wiped out one way or another in A Serpent's Tooth and from past experience there are no slow times for crime in Absaroka! Can't wait for my next Walt fix on June 2nd with the start of season 3 of the Longmire TV series. Hope Craig is somehow finding some time to start writing the next book while he's on his whirlwind book tour promoting ANY OHTER NAME.Just can't get enough Walt, Vic, Henry, Lucien and Dog!

A light read with familiar characters
In Craig Johnson’s latest Longmire mystery, “Any Other Name” he once again continues his narrative on Wyoming Absaroka County Sheriff Walt Longmire and his latest adventure. Like its predecessors this novel is fast paced with a lot of action along with further character development of the stoic lawman and his supporting players. This time around Walt is doing a favor for his former boss and retired sheriff Lucian Connally investigating the apparent suicide of a police investigator in another county. The situation is complicated by Walt’s need to bring things to a speedy conclusion as he’s expected in Philadelphia to be on hand for his very pregnant daughter’s pending delivery of his grandchild. Because he’s not on his home turf we don’t see all of the regulars you’d expect in a Longmire story but rest assured that Henry Standing Bear and undersheriff Victoria (Vic) Morretti are on hand to assist in the sleuthing. I felt this book focused more on Walt and he was on his own for a good part of the tale which was different than the ensemble effort that the other books portrayed. All in all I recommend this book and my wife and I are both big fans of the series. I do have two small criticisms; first, whenever Johnson feels compelled to take Walt to the spirit world where he has “visions”(usually induced by concussion or hypothermia) or whatever they are, I start to lose interest and skim through the pages. I’m not sure why Johnson feels the need to include this device in nearly every book but I don’t think it adds anything to the story and is frankly distracting. The other thing that’s starting to bother me is that Walt is increasingly taking a beating in every novel to the extent it’s starting to become cartoonish. In “Any Other Name” he is shot at least twice on two separate occasions, kicked by a bison in the head, and pummeled by miscellaneous bad guys and foreign objects. He absorbs ridiculous amounts of punishment and just keeps on going doing even greater physical feats of a perilous nature. He’s becoming like Bruce Willis’ John Maclane character from the “Die Hard” movies. Not that I want to see Walt using a walker but maybe we could dial it back just a little? Regardless, I’m still looking forward to the next in the series.

Another must read from Craig Johnson
This is another great book by Craig Johnson. I have all the previous books in the series on Kindle but could only get this in hard back. Worth every penny! Craig Johnson has me hooked by the first page. Walt Longmire is a great loveable character, the sort of man you would like as a friend & he has a fantastic friend in the character Henry Standing Bear. In this book Walt is supposed to be heading to Philadelphia for the birth of his first grandchild but gets sidetracked into looking into a suicide in another county. Will he make it to the end of the book in one piece? Will he get to Philadelphia in time for the birth? Read it to find out, you won't regret it!

COME BACK THE REAL WALT LONGMIRE....PLEASE!
Not the usual standard........The author seems somehow to have given Longmire a personality transplant! He's not the Longmire fans have come to know and love. I'm not sure what's happening here but the transition rom "real good guy" to "who gives a monkey's " isn't working for me. The story is a bit loose, and the "wit" a little thin and dated. I'm a an, but a disappointed one this time.

Great stories
Great Storytelling once again from this author.Walt Longmire is one of several brilliantly drawn characters in as exciting a plot as all the others. It's witty ,gritty and full of adventure. There is some sadness in the case Walt takes on but that's life.I recommend all this series from the beginning as the personal life of Walt does develope throughout although they all stand alone.

The book is faulty
The writing/ title on front cover isn't aligned and when you open the book the text is upside down in relation to the cover. Without reading it nit sure if other faults exist.

Another winner for both Craig and Walt
Ploughing through the series of books, having watched the TV show for the last few years.Very good and the TV show is different enough that you don't always know the conclusion before you start the book, which is a relief.
