Stick and Stone: A Heartwarming Friendship Adventure About Kindness and Sticking Together Review: Words/Actions come with a Non-refundable Policy - This story is very sweet. It shows kids how to be kind to others who are different from themselves. While the visual differences are pretty clear, it's up to the parents to remind our children that sometimes our differences aren't easily noticeable. We should consider our actions and our words before we act or speak about what we no nothing about. Words can never be taken back, no matter how hard one tries. Review: Clever and cute book that is fun for both children and parents - This is SUCH a cute and clever book! Not only do the passages rhyme, they are quite funny even for adults. My 19-month-old son might not really understand what is going on, but he still loves this book because of the cute graphics and because of how it sounds when we read it to him. It's easy for us to read it in a fun way because of how funny it is. When he gets older, he'll appreciate the humor and learn a little thing about the numbers 1, 0, and 10 =)

Fun illustrations, simple sweet story
This is one of the most read books in my house. The storyline is simple but not, you know, Disney channel cartoon vapid. It's a fun book to read aloud. My 4 year old really loves the rhyme scheme and action sequence to this book. He quotes it in imaginative play --- "COWABUNGA... KER SPLOOOOSH." Another nice thing is that this is an any time of the day book -- a lot of board books are pretty obviously just about reminding your kid that sleep is imminent. If you think your kid is at that age that they want to "pretend" read a book to themselves, this book is simple enough that they can basically memorize it pretty quickly and pick up on some important sight words.

My toddler and I love this book. Cute story about friendship. Has some cute play on words and great illustrations. My toddler “reads” along with this book and I don’t mind reading over and over. A must have for your toddler library!

Not what you expect from Sticks and Stones!
This is a wonderful book about inclusion, the power of friendship and the power of forgiveness, all wrapped up with beautifully simple illustrations. It was very simple to use for library storytime by gathering up small sticks, stones and pinecones and letting the kids glue googly eyes on them and take them home to recreate the story for their families. When I read it the first time, I had visions of the book "Hooper Humperdink, Not Him!" by Theo. LeSieg (Dr. Suess) that I read to my oldest when she was young. Both books teach an important lesson with very few words, but the message gets through.

Great for learning about the letter sound “s” in nature, the number 10 and about friendship in diversity!

Sometimes I feel like ‘minimalistic’ children’s books look good on the shelf but are in reality really boring for the child. Stick and stone however balances minimal design with something that my daughter has found really interesting from very early on. The story uses words sparingly, but these are very well thought out and the rhymes are equally as effective. The illustrations are clearly hand drawn, and both beautiful and vibrant to look at. The story teaches about friendship even in the most unlikely of pairings and how our different qualities can compliment each other well. The story makes you care for the characters despite being very brief, and especially given how few words there are in total. The board book version is very sturdy and is still going strong 2 years on. All in all, simple done well!
