When the Daltons Rode: When land-grabbers frame the Daltons for murder and seize their ranch, the brothers turn outlaw in this action-packed adventure starring Randolph Scott. Texas Rangers Ride Again: To investigate ranch foreman Joe Yuma’s (Anthony Quinn) cattle rustling racket, Texas Ranger Jim Kingston (John Howard) poses as a fugitive outlaw to infiltrate the crooked gang. The Spoilers (1942): John Wayne, Marlene Dietrich and Randolph Scott shine in this all-star adventure classic about gold and greed in an 1890s Alaskan boomtown. The Virginian (1946): Joel McCrea plays the iconic title role of a straight-shooting ranch hand who stands up to cattle kingpin Trampas (Brian Donlevy). Albuquerque: Cole Armin (Randolph Scott) aids a start-up stagecoach line threatened by Albuquerque’s domineering rail baron – his uncle! Whispering Smith: Railroad detective Whispering Smith (Alan Ladd) is torn between friendship and duty when his hot-headed buddy Murray Sinclair (Robert Preston) gets mixed up with train robbers. Comanche Territory: Jim Bowie’s (Macdonald Carey) mining rights negotiation gets complicated when a beautiful saloon owner (Maureen O’Hara) rouses the local townsfolk. Sierra: Horse wrangler Ring Hassard (Audie Murphy) rescues a woman who helps prove his fugitive father (Dean Jagger) innocent of murder. Kansas Raiders: Jesse James (Audie Murphy) and his brothers join William Quantrill (Brian Donlevy) and his vengeful raiders in an effort to save the Confederacy. Tomahawk: A frontier scout (Van Heflin) tries to head off a clash between the cavalry and the Indians when the government decides to build a wagon route through Sioux territory. Review: Terrific Value, Terrific Quality ! - This is an amazingly good set of well restored tip-top Westerns, seven in glorious colour and three in good black and white. I've already watched the two that I especially wanted and taken a look through the others and am very pleased with what I see. The two I've watched are: WHISPERING SMITH - this is in superb colour, with Alan Ladd looking particularly young and handsome, (a bit like his famous Shane character), playing a quietly spoken railroad detective on the trail of robbers, including his former friend, played sturdily by Robert Preston. It has a good storyline and direction, with terrific outdoor shots and some exquisite sets. A real joy! TOMAHAWK - This one is directed by George Sherman with impressive acting from Van Heflin as an army scout trying to unite the white settlers with the Sioux. Alex Nicol is equally impressive as a blood thirsty 'pretty-boy' cavalry officer doing just the opposite. The Montana scenery is particularly gorgeous, with lots of wide open spaces consisting of lush green plains, broken up by small inland cliffs, which makes for some skilled and intricate riding scenes. It's based on the true story of the Battle for Powder River which took place in 1876. UPDATE: I've watched all the films now, and they range from pretty good to excellent. Review: Nostalgic - Great old movies and great discs. Not a single skip or stall on any of these

Excellent collection of ten Hollywood westerns
Excellent collection of ten Hollywood westerns, mostly from the 40's with some from the early 50's. All films seem to have been restored as the picture quality is excellent. The first 3 are black & white, with the rest in colour. Not being big budget films they were all filmed in 1.33:1 full screen ratio. American consumers seem to demand greater value for their money than in the UK. You just don't get ten film collections for this price on region 2. Well worth £6.00 of anyone's money.

Have watched the first nine of the set. Almost all great. The eye-wateringly awful depiction of native Americans in Comanche Territory will either make you cry or laugh out loud. Apart from that they are all rarely seen classics. Well worth the investment.

"When the Daltons Rode (1940/B&W/81mins)" lohnt sich der Kauf.

Thank you Universal Studio's for putting this collection together. Like it's "War" counterpart it's has 10 classic B grade Westerns with great stars like,Randolph Scott,Audie Murphy and John Wayne. The quality of the picture and sound is also great. There are no special features, however,if you enjoy a good old 50's westerns then this is the dvd to buy and value as well. The cost of the movies are basically just over a dollar each. -Treat yourself to some of Universal's classics----------------------------------------------------------------------------
