Solid, durable lock
There were a bunch of reviews saying that this is hard to open, but I've had no problems opening and closing this lock. It does as advertised. I use it for the gym, and it keeps my belongings secure.

A great gym lock that's easy to set and hard to defeat!
I needed a lock for the gym and wanted something that wasn't easy to break or easy to "pick". Lots of the more common combination locks have numerous exploits that are easily learned from watching videos online. I wanted something that wasn't necessarily overkill but that also didn't scream "this one is easy to open!". This lock seems to be it!The four digit combination is nice as it presents a potential thief with 10,000 possible combinations instead of the 1000 that the cheaper three digit locks provide. Even if somebody wanted to sit there and try every possible combination and they could average two seconds per try it would still take up to almost six hours to find the right one (if they have to go through most of the combinations... figure 3 hours if they only have to go through half). A three digit lock only takes about a half hour to go through all the combinations under the same conditions. The lock is a nice heavy metal construction (208 grams on my scale) and has a nice shine to it. You'll be able to easily spot your locker!Changing the combination is super easy too. Once the lock is open just use a coin to twist the dial on the right side all the way to the right, set your new combination, then spin the dial back. Done!If you're looking for a decent gym lock or a decent lock for some other purpose then I highly recommend this one!

Good quality weather resistant lock
Abus 160/50 padlockJust received this new lock; I intend to update this review in the future after some time using it outdoors to lock a bicycle. After much research, I got this along with a hardened Guard Security 968 chain. Bought these instead of a Kryptonite lock & chain that has a lot of users saying the lock is hard to operate, or absolutely won't open, after a while. The vulnerability it previously had has apparently been fixed: I was NOT able to decode the combination using the depth gauge method shown on multiple old YouTube videos (e.g. one from Swynndla). So apparently Abus has redesigned and improved the model 160 to eliminate that vulnerability. Since YouTube reviewers/pickers said it was a good lock except for that one vulnerability, now fixed, I believe this is a pretty secure combination padlock. However I'm neither a professional nor amateur locksmith, so someone else might be able to find some weakness. The lock is apparently made in Germany. The back of the lock I received was engraved with ABUS, No. 160/50, ABUS D-58292 Wetter. When I Google searched "D-58292 Wetter" it seems to be part of their address in Germany. This lock is apparently NOT made in China (horray!); it doesn't have any "Made in ..." labeling on the package or lock, but the only country shown on the package is Germany. The package does have a sticker on it saying "WARNING: This product contains a small amount of lead..." and on the Abus manufacturer product description page (sorry, Amazon doesn't allow me to include the URL) it has the California Prop 65 warning, but so does just about every product made now, so I'm not too concerned. Prop 65 warnings unfortunatley now are so common they're like someone "crying wolf" every second of every day, so I'm tempted to think they're meaningless or at least not a good indicator of real risk. Sad.I've changed the combination and the lock is working great so far; no defects. 4 stars only because I hesitate to give anything 5 stars if I haven't had a long time to evaluate a product.

Jammed after being outside for a week
Ordered this as an outdoor lock for my crawlspace door. Set combination and for about 2 days it operated normally. I didn't go into the crawlspace for about a week, and when I went to check something, it didn't open. I kept doubting myself, thinking maybe I'd forgotten the combination, so I checked out lockpickinglawyers video on picking the lock. I used a powerful magnet and it indicated that I had been using the correct combination all along- it just wouldn't open.Eventually I just borrowed bolt cutters and cut the lock. Using a hammer, the shackle finally became unjammed. It's just a shame I had to cut it.From my experience, these locks are overpriced and are not as weatherproof as they claim. A $25-$30 lock shouldn't jam internally just because it sat outside for a week.

Good locks
I’m happy with these. They are easy to open & close, even in the snow.

If you need a padlock, buy this one
Abus is a German company known to make some of the best padlocks on the market. They are known for their quality materials and components which make them resistant to the elements as well as burglars. Their heavier models are a sight to behold :)This padlock features a user-selectable 4-digit combo. You can buy multiple padlocks and not have to bother with multiple keys since you can set them all to the same combo. It is very rust resistant from my own experience, and the maker suggests it is good for boating and marine use. Last but not least, it looks great with its chrome plating. It is also affordable. If you need a higher level of security, they have more expensive and beefier models, but this one is a great place to start, still better than most anything you will find in stores.Recommended.
