Great recipes!
I am so glad I ordered this book! So many good recipes from the good old days of diner eating. I still remember the pies and the smells when you entered a dinner. The smells, atmosphere, and the people are alive again on these pages. Recipes are easy to make and delicious. If you want to make something or just stroll down memory lane, then this is the book for you.

Blue Plate Special: The American Diner Cookbook: My Favorite Cookbook!
I have a collection of over 200 cookbooks, and this one is, by far, my favorite. All of the most delicious meals made by family and friends are here. This book brings back fond memories of my mother's meals. No fancy recipes, just easy to prepare, down-home goodness on every page. I just gave two copies away as gifts to my daughter and a friend, and they love it too. This cookbook will not rest on a shelf. It is one that you will turn to often. Over 450 recipes from diners all over America. Just a few delicious dishes are: jelly surprise muffins, down south omelette, chicken noodle soup, egg salad sandwich, maple barbecue oven spareribs, cabbage rolls, chicken cacciatore, crab cakes, home-style cole slaw, scallops in cream sauce, milk shakes in every flavor: coffee, english toffee, orange cream, and more, and deserts: carrot cake, pineapple upside-down cake, mississippi mud cake, Libby's key lime pie, apple crisp, rice pudding, and peach cobbler. Yum!

Love all the soda fountain syrup recipes
Solid resource for any classic diner. Love all the soda fountain syrup recipes, vintage dinner ideas and retro desserts. Good for large households though don't expect any single serving meals with this one. Would highly recommend. Comfort food galore!

Good book of classic diner recipes
The title sums up this book, 'American Diner Cookbook'. I was hoping more history on some of the diners that these recipes came from, but I won't hold that against it. It's a cookbook, plain and simple.

Good not great
I received this book as a gift. The historical content of the book is almost 100% New England and/or east coast centric, so don't expect to read about your favorite old midwestern or souther diners. There are -some- good recipes, particularly some of the soups but others are pretty simplistic and/or repeated with just minor changes to ingredients. A solid 3 stars, nothing more, nothing less.

Not great, but not bad
I am a big fan of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives on the Food Channel and was hoping for a cookbook that would give me some cool, "different" recipes. This one is in the neighborhood, but doesn't quite do it all the way. The search goes on!

I'm a sucker for American diner food, but if you can't handle cups measurements, don't buy
This book has brought back so many wonderful memories. It's got an amazing selection of recipes...Doughnuts, Pancakes, Omlettes, Biscuits & Gravy, Cakes, Pies, Waffles, Muffins, Hamburger Buns, Classic Sides, Gravies, Chili, Soups, Chowders, Salads, Dressings, Sandwiches, Burgers, Steaks, Hotdogs, Ribs, Meatloaf, Pot roasts, Shakes, Smoothies, Sundaes, etc, etc. This is by no means an exhaustive list. It also delves into the history of the American Diner and has some old genuine diner menus. There's also a glossary of diner slang, which was interesting to read. There are some lovely nostalgic black and white photos of old diners, but no photos of the recipes. Having said that, all the recipes I've tried so far, have been a piece of cake to make. ;) Down South Omlette, Banana Pancakes, Cinnamon Pancakes, Classic Onion Rings, Fresh Fruit Cup, Chicken Gumbo, Chicken Potato Chowder, Stuffed Lettuce Salad, Monte Cristo Sandwich #1, Sloppy Joes, Chicken Salad Sandwich #1 and #2, All American Burger, Deluxe Burgers, Baked Meat Loaf, Stuffed Green Peppers, Chicken Tetrazzini, Black Cow, Chocolate Malted Milk, Banana Milk Shake, Strawberry Sundae. Next on my menu are; Meatball Sandwich, Chili Dogs, Baked Burgers, Hamburger Buns, Oven Spareribs, Fill-Er-Up Beef Stroganoff, Cabbage Rolls, Chicken Croquettes, Chicken Pot Pie, Orange Pick-Me-Up, Applesauce Cake, Banana Cake, Custard Pie, Chocolate Custard Pie. All measurements are in US cups, etc. Google helped me with things like All purpose flour ( plain flour), Cake flour ( self raising), etc. If you can't be bothered buying a set of measuring cups, don't waste your money on this book. For everyone else, go for it...it's packed with authentic Diner recipes. I love it!

This is a North East diner book - full of good recipes. The photos are Black and White which fits the style.I lived with small town diners for a long time in the South East so the food is sliglty different but the spirit notLovely book

Great cookbook
Great dinner style recipes that remind my wife of her childhood favorites growing up in the USA in the 70s.Enjoyed the recipes and the history of different New England, New York dinners.Only point about this book is that it is a New England cook book, so no clasic southern dinner recipes in this.
