Games Workshop Warhammer 40,000 Astra Militarum Cadian Heavy Weapon Squad

Sorry to come off like a cheerleader for GW. I know a common complaint about the models is their cost, but in my experience you get what you pay for. The level of detail on this and other kits is amazing. Also, this kit - like many others - allows you to customize the figures so you can choose the variant you want to build. I'm prone to Auto cannons but to each his own. And, as I say every time I review one of these model kits, everything fits exactly like it's supposed to. Finally, let's also give GW credit for keeping their jobs at home and manufacturing their products in the UK. By the way, I'm a Yank but I still respect that.

Add a box or 2 of guardsmen infantry squad frames, a few bits, and a little enginuity, you can build all the heavy weapons instead of building only 3 per heavy weapon box. Cheaper in the long run for guard players.

Box arrived completely undamaged, still sealed in plastic. all the components are there and it was 25% cheaper than my local store. Can now rain mortars upon the enemies of the emperor. 10/10 would recommend.

You can make an extra three crews if you buy some bases and cut holes for standard guardsmen.

The Imperial Guard Heavy Weapons squad comes with a lot of bitz and a lot of options. The only downside is that if you are making multiple heavy weapons squads (which every Imperial Guard player does) that the teams start to look the same after a while. Still, not too shabby (now if only GW didn't charge an arm and a leg!!). Also, in case you are wondering, there are enough pieces to make either three identical teams or a variety of heavy weapons.

This is a frustrating kit. For a long time Games Workshop never provided enough parts in their kits to make the units they were selling. A team of 10 Imperial Guard for example does not include a heavy weapon or most of the special weapons they can use, you have to get another kit for those. This kit has the parts for 3 heavy weapon teams and does that well. But you're left with a dozen more heavy weapons to find a use for. It comes with a tripod and a bipod, you can easily make a second set of teams that way (if you have extra men and bases). But after that you have to scratch build or improvise ways to mount your weapons. An experienced modeler can do it, but it's an unnecessary hassle. If the kit included another bipod or two and some extra bases it would be fantastic. As it is it feel like this $40 kit is shortchanging the customer.
