Worked for a memorial plaque

Bought this instead of trophy brass for a memorial plaque that a lovely 92 year old wanted to mark a piece given to the local historical museum. Polished it a little, printed it, fancy cut it and she is happy as a clam and so am I.

Not sure if it is customary to WRITE IN SHARPIE ...

Not sure if it is customary to WRITE IN SHARPIE on the actual metal???? I was planning to cut the metal into shapes to hang from a brass wire mobile as a gift. Now I need to research how to get the sharpie writing off first :(
