excellent item
Good quality item just received and fitted in under 10 mins, the handle is metal which is where most of the wear and tear is so expect it to last better than part it's replacing and the use of nuts to hold the cable in place is a nice touch that the original on my armchair didn't have. Fixed my armchair in a jiffy, ten minute job swapping cables in and out. Spring on it is just the right tension and actually much easier to recline chair than old setup. Beware the casing is a very tight fit to a standard hole for the handle and it may need to be hammered in place to make it fit flush (I put a hardback notebook flat over it and hammered the book a few times so as not to damage the metal and it worked fine). Didn't seem to have screws but as per previous doesn't need them and I have screws from old housing if it works loose in future. If you see no edit or update here assume all is going well.

Gave life to my recliner again
The day I decided we needed to replace our 16 year old sofa set was followed by the recliner handle on my usual sitting spot breaking. Rather than sending it to the great sofa graveyard, I decided to look into a repair and I found this universal part which is exactly what I wanted.I received the part today which included a cable pull I didn't plan on using. Unfortunately, the entire part and cable needed replacing, because the cable was not compatible with the new handle, due to the method the handle secures the cable neck. It accepts a screw-in cable rather than a slide-in, which is held with a retaining pin/spring.This meant I had to use the cable that came with the part, which in turn meant I had to remove the old cable and install the new one. It was a little tricky. Firstly, the screw-in part is a bit fiddly and should be done before attaching the other end to the chair. The most awkward part was releasing the plastic clip which secures the cable to the metal frame. I had to melt the back section of the old one to get it out. This is why I gave 4 rather than 5 stars. The sofa has a few more years of life in it, which can be enjoyed by the next user after I take delivery of a new suite. Great product which saved this sofa from the dump.

Surprisingly it really WAS easy
Our manual recliner had stopped reclining, and an online search said the average fee to fix was over £100. I checked the reviews here and bought this kit thinking I had little to lose by trying. I’m not a great DIY-er, but I’m quite happy assembling furniture (to give you an idea of my level!) and after watching a few ‘how to videos’ the process didn’t seem too bad and ….. I’ve only just managed to fix it myself!!! I’m so pleased and frankly shocked at how easy it is compared to what we would have been charged had we called someone out. It took me about 30 minutes, but anyone with any experience would only need a fraction of that time.I’m also very impressed with the product - the cable and handle parts both seem to be better quality than the ones I took out.
