High school grads: Read this now! (you'll thank me later)
This book is a GPS for succeeding in college. Pay attention to the step-by-step directions and it will take you to your destination without you having to get lost.I’m making this book required reading for my daughters who are about to go to college. It will save them soooo much trouble. Professors Johnson and Price have distilled their experiences over the decades into simple, understandable advice that is a must read.Oh, you can learn all of these principles on your own; I did. I made many of the mistakes described in this book, and learned the lessons too. By the time I was done at the University I was finally ready to START at the University. Imagine instead if I had read this book right after high school!Chapter 2 is a goldmine of good advice. I sat my children down and read the whole chapter to them out loud. It started a great discussion. The information in chapter 7 will make or break your online college course experience. So good. The chapters on office hours and letters of recommendation are worth the price of admission all by themselves. I wasted two years figuring this stuff out. I can’t tell you how much I wish that someone had handed me this book! Please have your high school graduate read this book carefully. Bribe. Cajole. Plead. Offer them cash to read it. Then discuss it with them. Learning the lessons in this book will save your child countless hours of headache and set them up for success in their field of study.

Timely, on Target Advice
This book is not only well conceived and written, but each chapter is sprinkled with humorous cartoons that complement the points being made. Although it is directed to those students entering a college campus for the first time, it also serves as a navigational guide for mature, returning and/or students taking courses online. Highly recommended! Ann R.

Great advice from the professors' side and a must-read for college-bound students!
I haven't even finished reading this book and already can say that it is a MUST-READ for seniors preparing for college. It is an easy-to-read (and fun!) guide to help new college students know what to expect from and how to maneuver their classes. I'm enjoying the read and finding it so helpful that I have bought a copy for each of my daughter's friends as they graduate high school. Thank you to the authors for sharing their perspective and advice!

Advice About Office Hours Is Very Helpful!
My graduating senior has been reluctant in the past about approaching teachers whether it be for questions about content or projects or grades. While she has come a long way in practicing being uncomfortable, I'm sure that she may be nervous again in approaching her professors next year. We both found the chapter about office hours especially informative. The advice to drop in to each professor's office hours early in the semester just to ask a question or comment on a lecture or pay a compliment about the class will certainly make it easier to establish a relationship. That way it will be more likely for the student to approach a professor if a problem arises. It can also lead to a deeper understanding of the class content. This has been a most helpful book!

Don't enter college until you read this book!
Dana Johnson has created a comprehensive guide for students who endeavor to succeed at the college level and beyond. As a retired school superintendent, I am grateful for the thoughtful insight she provides in this comprehensive book designed to ensure a high degree of success at a college or university. Of particular interest is the advice Dana provides from the perspective of a college professor. This roadmap for a critical and transitional period in life can make the difference between success and failure. Educators and parents will welcome her robust advice to high school students set on a path for college.Charles Maranzano, Ed.D.Retired County Superintendent, Virginia; and District Superintendent, New Jersey
