A Love Letter to Socom/G.I.JOE legacy fans
Ok, before I begin, There are many naysayers behind the SOCOM guys, Zipper Interactive, and their eventual disbanding (if my facts are straight) And I have loved many of their games, except during their hay-day, I was on the Rainbow Six side of things. Having bought a PS3 and Getting the Socom games, I fell in love again, because, the mechanics of the game still work, and the updated feel and execution of the game are awesome.I recently purchased a Vita, and Heard that the Unit 13 game is by the same guys. Now here is my review.Graphics: Awesome, and definitely show what the system is capable of. and you gotta love the ragdoll physics.Controls: Genius, especially since there are no R3 and L3 buttons on the device. the screen is used mainly for grenades and other non-frequent devices which save the buttons for the good stuff. Sprinting is handled like Gears of War, and locking to the walls is handled by pressing the "o" button. Melee is the Square, and Triangle switches your weapon. grenades are handled with the screen.Gameplay: aside from adjusting to the discomfort of the device itself (so I bought trigger grips from PDP, which infinitely solve this) the gameplay is fast and furious. it is smooth, and you forget that you are playing a handheld.Multiplayer: It works, and it is awesome. however, only 2 players co-op, and no deathmatch.Story: Well, here is where things get bad when it comes to the game. but its also good. The game as far as I know, doesnt tell a cohesive story, but its ok, because Unit 13 is like G.I.JOE. many missions, many requirements, and each mission has its own storyline/plot. the voicework sells the badass-ness of the characters. There is no Cobra, but the characters are everything you want, and span all of the races. this is what army of 2 should look at. The Missions are pretty cool, from stealth to assassination to all out gun fights. the levels are a great size also.Sound and Music: They are great. Action packed music, and pretty clear gun sounds. The only negative impact of any game like this is the fact that when you only have a few games to play that are this good, yo only play those games, and you get bored pretty fast if you play them too much. Play 2 missions a day, then play online, I guarantee that you will get your moneys worth. My PSNID is ILLMAGNUS, feel free to add me on. "EXCELSIOR!" - Stan Lee

Play your way
Weapons:I love that you can play it as an assault player or a sniper. Sometimes I'll come into the map with a suppressed submachine other times I'll come in as a sniper with an sr and take everyone's head off. This is so much fun. When I'm feeling like a real a-hole, I'll pick a shotty just to see them go flying. I also love having a suppressed handgun for the times I want silent murder. If an enemy drops a gun that'll come in handy for your current situation you can pick it up, clear out the room, and then pick up your original gun.Engaging:You can engage targets head-on or stealthily. Most of the time I'll try to get as many headshots as I can as quickly as possible and not care if an enemy sees his teammate get shot. Other times I'll wait for the perfect time so that nobody knows that their team is getting picked off one by one.Cover:You can use traditional video game cover just by popping out and back in. Or you can use the modern cover system in video games, then one that lets you aim at enemies without exposing yourself. This game has "blind fire" where you put the crosshairs on the enemy while you're hiding and then by gently tapping the trigger you expose only your rifle and start blasting in their general direction and it almost always gets them. I think that's kind of cheap but I do it sometimes for laughs. Another modern way of using cover here is aiming at an enemy while you're hidden and letting the computer hold your pivot foot behind cover then busting off a quick shot by letting the game pivot you back to cover.Maps:You don't have to play the maps in a specific order. You get a choice and when you beat one, new ones become available. I don't like playing the maps that have time limits or the stealth maps. I like the "elite" maps which don't have regenerating health but allow me to fight at my own pace and not have to be Solidus.I like that the enemies are aggressive like human players. They'll maneuver to get behind you or rush the room you're in when they think you're hurt.I've had this for a week and it's so much fun. I only play it on the train, and the analog sticks work great even with the train in motion. The graphics are PS2 or better, the sound is amazing and the controls are just right. If this came with online multiplayer I would play at home, too.If you like Battlefield or COD, you should buy this.

great game with only a few minor flaws
the game is great. The shooting mechanics and gameplay are much better than uncharted ga but there is no storyline here. The only complaints I have for this game include:1. Too easy. I platinumed this game in about 2 or 3 weeks max. I would have done it in 1 week but I had to max out operatives and it sounded like too much work so I went to other games instead. I finally got the platinum this morning (and I ordered the game around September 1st).2. Sometimes the ai is dumb. One example is when I played hvt wizard. I got to the last part of the level and I was killing enemies down a long hallway. The next enemy to run up would look down the wrong way to the wall then the obvious place of where I was located. Why he would turn towards the dead end wall instead of down the hallway is beyond me. And about 5 enemies in a row do this. The ai is not always like this but in some parts they are. They are also inconsistent. Sometimes I would take down an enemy with a silencer and enemies down the stairs would hear me and other times they wouldn't.these complaints are very very minor though and I think the game is amazing. I hope a second one is made. I did not have any of the freezing or crashing issues other people reported. I think the fw upgrade and unit 13 software upgrade took care of this. I would definitely recommend to other people.
