Great book!
I first ordered this book for a Kindergarten rock lesson and actually chose another for my particular lesson. I’m still keeping the book but it goes into the different types of rock which isn’t something I wasn’t to introduce yet to my littles.

For all rock hounds
Let's Go Rock Collecting (Let'S-Read-And-Find-Out Science. Stage 2) Collecting rocks is cool. You can find rocks anywhere you go. There are photos of granite, quartz, basalt and other common rocks. Simple explanations of Igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic also a brief page on magma and volcanoes. Nice drawings of how the rocks are layered. It has ideas of where to go to collect rocks and how you can store them in an egg carton or box with dividers. There is a drawing of kids looking thru a rock book, appearing to compare their collection with the photos in the book. The book encourages kids to collect rocks and try to figure out what types they find. A good starter book, especially for my 5 year old who is obsessed with rocks, any and all rocks.

Good Rock Starter Book
Gave this to my 8 yr. old grandson. He loves rocks and is looking forward to Spring when we can go out and look for some of the ones mentioned in the book. He's an excellent reader, so he's already learned some of the names. If your kids or grand kids like rocks,, this is a fun and informative book.

Great intro to rocks for kids
Cute little book. Well organized. Cute pictures. I'd buy it again. I used it to teach my kindergarteners about rocks. The book goes in a little more detail than 5 year olds really grabbed ahold of. However, I plan on reviewing the book until they are in 2nd or 3rd grade and finally can really understand the main types of rocks. They did really grasp that there are many different rocks, formed in different ways.

Good info
We needed rock books for a rock unit at work. We work with children age 3-5 and I was worried about any rock book being too advanced for the 3s and a few 4s. This book had good illustrations and the book was pretty well written so most of the children held interest. I think it was a little long for the youngest ones, but overall I love this book and I've enjoyed pulling it out. The older kids have a lot of questions when they read it

Not for younger kids
I bought this along with a rock collection for my 4 year old who loves rocks. The cover art made me think it would be very introductory and for preschool to early elementary age groups. He thought the rock collection was cool but when we opened the book and it began to discuss the geology and the sedimentary cycle I lost him. I think maybe kids 8 and up would like it. Don't be fooled by the cover art.

They are a great introduction to science for little children
We have most of the Level 1 books. They are a great introduction to science for little children. The only reason these don't get five stars is because a slightly bigger font size would have made these books excellent.
